A Halal Urban Hotel Built Around Islamic Hospitality

A Halal Urban Hotel Built Around Islamic Hospitality

Thailand’s first halal hotel

Al Meroz Bangkok is a 5-star, Muslim-friendly city hotel identified as Thailand’s first halal hotel. Its operating concept combines halal-certified food, alcohol-free public spaces, prayer-friendly accommodation and a conservative, family-oriented service environment.

Prayer-led details throughout the property

The hotel’s religious hospitality concept extends into every room: rooms point toward Mecca and contain both a prayer mat and a copy of the Qur’an. Common areas are described as non-alcoholic and oriented towards family dining and prayer accommodation.

Full-service city hotel with community-scale events

The property is designed as a modern full-service urban hotel rather than a themed resort, combining 242 rooms and suites with restaurants, a gym, an outdoor pool and substantial banquet facilities for weddings, seminars, conferences and product launches.

Prayer-Oriented Rooms and Suite Accommodation

Prayer-Oriented Rooms and Suite Accommodation

Superior, Deluxe and Suite categories

The 242-room accommodation portfolio includes Superior, Deluxe and Suite categories, with booking inventory also identifying Twin/Double, Twin and Suite room types. Suites provide the hotel’s most distinctive accommodation format within its broad city-hotel room mix.

Rooms arranged for Islamic practice

All rooms point toward Mecca and include a prayer mat and a copy of the Qur’an, making prayer orientation a defined part of the accommodation experience rather than a feature limited to public facilities.

Around-the-clock in-room service

The hotel provides 24-hour room service, alongside its halal operating model. This supports flexible dining within the room categories while maintaining the property’s alcohol-free and Islamic-compliant approach.

Halal Mediterranean, International and Café Dining

Halal Mediterranean, International and Café Dining

Diwan all-day family dining

Diwan All Day Dining Restaurant is the hotel’s all-day family dining venue, serving international cuisine. Buffet service is associated with the restaurant, adding a flexible format to the hotel’s halal-certified, alcohol-free dining programme.

Barakat Mediterranean cuisine

Barakat is the hotel’s specialty Mediterranean restaurant. It serves halal-certified food, with à la carte service identified for the venue, and forms the property’s most clearly defined regional cuisine concept.

Al Qahwa coffee and pastry service

Al Qahwa Coffee & Pastry Shop operates as a separate café and pastry venue with daytime service, extending the hotel’s halal dining offer beyond its restaurant formats.

An Outdoor Pool with Scheduled Gender-Based Access

An Outdoor Pool with Scheduled Gender-Based Access

Outdoor pool with city views

The hotel’s outdoor pool is paired with sun loungers, and booking descriptions note city views from the pool area. It provides an outdoor leisure setting within the urban property rather than a resort-style landscape.

Separate children’s swimming area

Multiple property listings reference a children’s pool alongside the main outdoor pool, giving younger guests a dedicated swimming area within the hotel’s leisure facilities.

Access scheduled by gender

Pool use follows the hotel’s Islamic customs policy: women may use the pool from 8:00 AM to noon, while men may use it from noon to 8:00 PM.

Fitness, Personal Training and Large-Scale Event Facilities

Fitness, Personal Training and Large-Scale Event Facilities

On-site health club

The hotel’s fitness centre and health club include a fully equipped fitness room. Personal trainer services are also listed, extending the facility beyond self-guided exercise.

Grand Meroz for major functions

Grand Meroz Banquet Hall is listed for weddings, press conferences, seminars, product launches and workshops, with capacity up to 1,200 people and banquet-round seating for 650 in one venue listing.

Bustan for smaller gatherings

Bustan provides a second substantial event setting with listed capacity for 200 people, complementing Grand Meroz and enabling the property to host both large-scale and more contained social or corporate gatherings.

A Practical Base in Residential Suan Luang

A Practical Base in Residential Suan Luang

East-central Bangkok neighbourhood

The hotel is located in Suan Luang, a mixed residential and urban district in east-central Bangkok. The area is more local in character than the capital’s primary tourist zones and sits outside the dense hotel clusters of Sukhumvit and Silom.

Connected to the Ramkhamhaeng corridor

Suan Luang’s position along the Ramkhamhaeng corridor places the hotel within reach of major roads, transport routes, commercial Bangkok and the wider city’s business network.

Terminal 21 access by car

One listing places Terminal 21 Bangkok approximately 10 minutes away by car, giving the hotel a practical connection to a major retail and commercial destination while retaining its less tourist-heavy neighbourhood setting.

    Sentiment analysis

    CategoryScoreGuest Sentiment
Cleanliness8.6Multiple reviews explicitly praise cleanliness and tidiness; one review noted poorer room cleanliness/condition, so overall positive but not perfect.
Service8.9Staff repeatedly described as attentive, helpful and compassionate (several named employees praised), though a few notes about robotic/unfriendly check-in and slow checkout create minor negatives.
Location7Several reviewers mention the hotel is somewhat far from major malls/Siem Square (~35 minutes), though a train station is nearby; location is the most commonly cited drawback.
Room Quality7.6Rooms described as comfortable by some, but other reviews call out substandard 5-star room condition and outdated furniture, indicating mixed room quality.
Amenities8.4Good Islamic-friendly amenities noted (prayer room, women-only pool hours, shattaf, elevators); some disappointment about fewer restaurants than advertised.
Value for Money8.3Not directly discussed in most reviews (assigned near target overall rating); overall positive experiences and family-friendly features support slightly above-target value perception.
Food and Beverage7.5Food is praised (halal options, varied breakfast), but operational issues reported (only one restaurant instead of many, staff with limited English causing order errors/delays).
Overall Experience9.3Multiple strong endorsements of an outstanding stay, compassionate care during a family illness, and recommendations for families—overall very positive experience.

    Rooms: What guests say

    255 relevant reviews

Rooms are often described as spacious, comfortable, clean, and offering good views, but recurring complaints include poor cleanliness, musty smells, ants or other insects, clogged toilets, leaking or unsafe bathrooms, weak soundproofing, noisy or faulty air conditioning, outdated furnishings, and missing basic amenities. Several guests reported room changes and unresolved maintenance problems.

    See the evidence
Rooms were in very poor condition — toilets constantly blocked, dust everywhere, and a bad smell that never went away.
There are a lot of ants in the rooms so you can’t let any food, any crumb or else a hundred ants will appear.
The bathtub lacked vertical handrails, making entry and exit genuinely dangerous. We slipped multiple times on the bathroom floor.

    Overall: What guests say

    190 relevant reviews

Al Meroz is repeatedly praised as a halal, Muslim-friendly family hotel with prayer facilities, halal food, friendly staff, cleanliness, comfortable rooms, and a quiet location. Recurring criticisms include an outdated property, inadequate maintenance or deep cleaning, poor Wi-Fi, limited Asian breakfast variety, occasionally cold food, and claims that service falls below five-star expectations.

    See the evidence
The hotel is entirely Islamic, from the staff to the upscale room system, including a prayer area, tranquility, cleanliness of the hotel, cleanliness of the surroundings, and modesty for Muslim families.
The hotel was clean, staff were friendly and helpful, and the halal food gave us peace of mind.
The place lacks deep cleaning. The place needs maintenance. I don't know if the food is reheated or cooked because several times the food comes very cold.
On 21/10/2025, a Tuesday, the staff responsible for maintenance opened the room while my wife and I were inside (this is a very big mistake).

    Staff: What guests say

    253 relevant reviews

Most reviews describe staff as friendly, helpful, attentive, and welcoming, especially bell staff and named employees such as Giant, Apisit, Anuchit, Eddy, and Thapphisak. Several praise exceptional personal care and accessibility support. However, others report robotic or unfriendly reception, slow service, language and order errors, unexpected charges, room-allocation disputes, and a humiliating checkout accusation.

    See the evidence
Special thanks to Apisit, the front desk manager, whose warmth and genuine concern made a real difference when we needed it most.
The staff were exceptionally helpful, especially Giant, Anuchit, and Eddy, who went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience.
the staff don't speak any English at all, hence made lots of errors in our order and caused delays.
They even forced us to open all our bags for inspection in front of them – nothing was found, of course – but the entire process was humiliating and insulting.

    Location: What guests say

    209 relevant reviews

The location suits Muslim travelers, with nearby halal restaurants, mosques, and prayer facilities, plus metro access and convenient airport connections. However, it is consistently described as far from central Bangkok, shopping malls, nightlife, and major attractions; walking options are limited, taxis face heavy traffic, and some guests report highway noise and poor soundproofing.

    See the evidence
This location is good for Muslims, there are 3 excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk (Sophie, Mandarin Dim Sum & Korean BBQ).
The location is not very central, besides the 3 restaurants there is nothing within walking distance and most attractions are minimum 20 minutes away via taxi.
The hotel is near a metro station (about 500m on foot). From there, one can avoid the admittedly often problematic traffic situation.
The hotel location is very bad becouse I think it is near to a highway and we can't sleep well all nights.

    Breakfast: What guests say

    206 relevant reviews

Breakfast is frequently praised as tasty, varied, halal, and including Thai, international, fruit, bread, and vegetarian choices, with service from 6 a.m. However, many guests report repetitive menus, limited Western or Middle Eastern options, and insufficient variety for longer stays. Recurring complaints include crowded, chaotic service and occasionally cold food; one review reported a cockroach near fruit.

    See the evidence
The buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, with an impressive selection of fresh, juicy fruits and vegetables. I especially loved that steamed yam and sweet potatoes were served daily.
The breakfast does not meet expectations; although it's halal, the Thai items have not changed even though I stayed for more than 11 days eating only eggs and fruits. I do not recommend their breakfast.
It was extremely crowded at breakfast (both at 8, 9, and 10), with drinks being poured from buckets into the dispenser.
I spotted a cockroach crawling alarmingly close to the dragon fruit platter. I immediately called the manager to witness the situation and filed a complaint. It was absolutely unacceptable and raised serious hygiene concerns.

    Facilities: What guests say

    102 relevant reviews

Facilities are praised for the elegant, spacious lobby, clean rooms, comfortable beds, halal food, prayer room, gym, pool, and accessibility wheelchairs. Recurring drawbacks include only two slow elevators serving many floors, aging facilities needing renovation, inconsistent hot water, slow Wi-Fi, limited room amenities, and housekeeping failing to replenish towels, water, or toiletries.

    See the evidence
Only two elevators available to serve 15 floors, which may cause delays
    There is a prayer room.
The hotel itself need refurb as apart from the main entrance the hotel looked and feel very dull.
Housekeeping left a note but did not provide fresh towels, water, or replenished toiletries.

    Restaurant: What guests say

    63 relevant reviews

Halal food is the hotel’s most repeated advantage, with extensive breakfast and nearby halal restaurants, especially Sophia. Guests generally praise the food, though some report limited variety, high prices, no 24-hour dining, and inconsistent service, including a late room-service order left on the floor that resulted in no dinner.

    See the evidence
The hotel offers a fully halal restaurant and an extensive halal breakfast buffet, which is very pleasant.
Right next to Sophia halal restaurant. The food was amazing esp the coconut cream cake. And many more halal restaurant options just around the hotel itself!
The food in the restaurant was good but there was no large selection.
I ordered room service- menu : One Chicken fried rice and one egg at 9:50 pm. Suddenly we thought its 10:45 pm still no food. The order came and to our shock it was kept on the floor without informing us. But yes when i shown my disappointment the incharge cancelled the price but i was not provided dinner as it was closed by then.

    Pool: What guests say

    52 relevant reviews

The rooftop pool on the 16th floor offers attractive city views, especially at night, and women-only morning hours are appreciated by some guests. However, it is repeatedly described as very small, with few loungers, odd or restrictive schedules, and family swimming often unavailable until after noon. Dirty or blurry glass and occasional cleanliness concerns also recur.

    See the evidence
The pool is a bit small for how large the hotel is; also, the glass that creates the infinite pool view was a little blurry.
The swimming pool for family were only after 12pm, which by then we are about to go out.
The swimming pool on the 16th floor was a super attractive bonus and it made our kids really happy.
The glass on the rooftop pool was really dirty, I had hoped to enjoy the view from the pool.
