Overall: What guests say

Reviews repeatedly describe Bangkok Palace as an older, dated hotel that can offer good value, a convenient location, and a clean, comfortable stay for guests seeking basic accommodation. Experiences are sharply mixed: some praise helpful staff and a pleasant atmosphere, while others report cockroaches, mildew smells, poor cleanliness and bathrooms, and service or crowd-management problems. Several say it falls short of its advertised star rating.

Where the staff dare not smile for fear of being carried away to room 101 by the curious men aplenty dressed in black suits, who patrol the hotel like Dobermans guarding some mafioso penthouse.
What you have entered is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge.
Infact they rigorously enforce their rules (no picture taking, can’t sit in lobby or cafe unless you’re a paying customer and proper attire in work out and pool area etc.).

I paid for a five star hotel for one night to have a nice start on my holidays, but got 2 star experience.
This hotel dates to the 1980s, and hasn't had major renovations since then, which might be a good thing depending on your perspective.
To be honest, I did not expect my experience will be this good given they do have a lot of negative reviews.

Welcome to the Cockroach Palace Hotel where you will enter a dystopian world of loudspeaker announcements and posters of rules and regulations.
The place looks old and vintage but the place is clean, it is comfy and exactly what we need; quiet place.
The hotel is cute because of how old fashioned and old school it is and had us giggling because of this.

Overall, considering the price, the Bangkok Palace Hotel provided excellent value and a positive experience for our family vacation.
We cancelled the 2 subsequent nights later in the tour, and got a decent hotel worth the claimed stars.
Some of the previous reviews on this hotel have not been so good, in general I was quiet happy.

The photos published in the website are deceiving..one of the worst housekeeping services u will experience in bangkok..
Over all living in that hotel was worthwhile it was awesome staff are good and helping and location
Don't be fooled by the grandeur of the lobby with its cascading crystal chandeliers and polished wooden panels.

We had a lovely stay and are world travellers who accept the fact that nothing is perfect.
In every country, the standards are different. In Thailand, I believe this is a good hotel.
After waiting 1.5 hours for him to call me back I had to have food delivered.

Do not book this hotel if you want to have a good stay at Bangkok.
There's too many good hotels in the area to waste time and money here.
Have stayed in the property twice overall it is a good property.

They were not able to manage the large crowd at breakfast.
Not worth to give a security deposit of 2000 Baht.
If You are looking for more modern, stay away.

It looks like a 3 or 2 star motel.
An old time pleasant and large thai hotel
We have been staying there for years.

The hotel should be on your app.
Do not book at thia hotel!
An impressive historical hotel and location.

Rooms: What guests say
View Bangkok Palace Hotel85 relevant reviews
Room reports are sharply mixed: some guests found rooms clean, comfortable, and spacious, while many reported cockroaches, dirt or stained linens, and poor upkeep. Recurring issues include dated bathrooms, broken or clogged fixtures and toilets that would not flush, plus noisy or faulty air conditioning. Beds were also described as uncomfortable; some rooms were small or basic.

Had booked a queen size bed and got the two twin bed situation that was just pushed up next to each other on wheels that separated annoyingly throughout the night.
It's important to note that our room was clean and comfortable throughout our stay, and we didn't encounter any of the issues with cleanliness mentioned in some other reviews.
I book a room with a Queen size bed, but during check in they said they did not have one, and then said I should had confirmed my book.

We thought that the didn’t have a time to clean the room as the hotel was fully booked but next day they didn’t clean the room as well.
I was disappointed with the room that I was given as they are doing renovations on one of the wings and unpleasant fumes were wafting to our room.
The bed is so hard, which I tried to change the room so I would feel comfortable but all the rooms had the same bed.

The room was not in a 5 star situation! Like 3 Star! Looks old and a bit lacking in things (like no liquid soap!)
First no king size bed after calling and requesting as was my belated birthday fine stayed in the rm with two beds moved together.
When i wipes the sink area with wet wipes, the wet wipes become dark brown so it show it didn't get clean often.

Also I'm really tall and I had to duck in the hallways it is an older building but it is very beautiful.
Did not complain as was only transiting, they may have changed room but I did not have the time to be bothered.
Anyway after pushing for the large bed they found one, and told me they upgraded me to a larger king size.

There were small cockroaches in the bathroom and the toilets were very low and water filled till halfway up.
Leaving the hotel room door open and talking loudly in the hallway as they go to breakfast.
The hotel does not provide room slippers, shaver and tooth brush which is a basic essential.

Hence complained and got a Deluxe at 10th floor, with same space but better views.
Too old bed sheet, very uncomfortable mattress and many more too old without update
The room is ok however the toilet could not be flushed properly.

On paper sounds great, we even did upgrade to a Deluxe room.
For an older hotel, it is an unfortunate and unpleasant experience.
I only like the spacious room and toilet and restaurant.

Although they repaired two times, it was not working.
Saw 2 cockroaches on the side table and shower.
Nice hotel with friendly staff and clean rooms,

Insects roaming in the room and in restaurants.
Everyday u will see cockroach in the room.
Rooms are clean and hygiene is maintained.

Right after checked in toilet in flushed
The bathroom shower is old and rusted.
Both rooms were clean and tidy.

Staff: What guests say
View Bangkok Palace Hotel81 relevant reviews
Many guests describe staff as friendly, helpful, efficient, and courteous, with housekeeping and bell staff singled out for good service. However, complaints repeatedly target rude or unwelcoming reception staff and limited English, which can make requests and travel advice difficult. Some guests also report pressure for tips or disputes over deposits and service.

A couple of employees followed me up to my room when I guests came in with me the first few minutes after I booked two rooms and harass that guests I guess they thought she hadn't paid or something when I paid for both rooms and he wasn't made me very uncomfortable and it felt stalkerish that they even knew she was in there after the first few minutes I arrived.
The attitude of the reception staff and the manager are awful..the manager lady named Mrs.Nawarat's behaviour to the customers is pathetic..she doesnt now what is hospitality and how to serve the customers..i havent seen such a rude behaviour from a hotel manager to the customers.
You know that feeling where you feel like you’re being talked about and laughed at? This was the first time I experienced that in my two weeks in Thailand... and every time I encountered staff it felt that way.

After we told her what happened (not the previous 3 above mentioned staff), she told us that actually we can stay on - and that no money is required for the 2nd pax.
Good service, nice hospitality, i recommended to this hotel nice, nice hotel area and nice staff here so you can come here and check in and enjou stay here is very nice
They did as a favour to check as in earlier than the time and we appreciate that even if we had to compromise in the room type and go in a twin!

When complaining why more staff are not made available to breakfast area and that I will not use the breakfast coupons for the following 2 days, the Manager simply said, thank you.
Also they asked for a deposit! I think it should be handled by booking.com and reserved only with Credit cards in case that they really need to get a deposit!
I would like to remind the sales team of Bangkok palace hotel you have ruined the bad name of the hotel & the country by doing this.

Staff not helpful..TV not working and not corrected till we left..no one answer sometime when u call reception..side entrance close by 11pm and difficult by other way
Better if the reception staff were educated to speak in English and to support the clients to direct certain locations in Bangkok and how to travel.
When we call the room service or receptions it goes unanswered and even if they answer they dont know english and they just hang the call...

I asked the manager why he didn't call back. He said the food and beverage manager got angry with him and he was too embarrassed.
The worst were - Staff of the Hotel, including a female manager who did check in for us. What a rude attitude she showed.
The front desk staff dont undertand a word of english and the concierge staff one guy kept begging me to buy him food.

When asked to meet Front Office Manager, they denied that he is on leave and there is no back up.
Very slow to check in and out because of additional rules required to manage such a large property.
Top of all the people at reception were very rude to each guest they spoke to.

Because most of the tourists doesn’t know much to travel and find the greatest locations
The hotel staff refused to transfer our luggage as it was late at night
Unfortunately poor standards specially Mr.Win's behaviour doesn't reflect a well run hotel

When I call to complain seems like they didn’t care at all.
Told reception apoloise and thats it didnt bother to go further.
Very very old hotel and horrible experience with hotel staff.

The most important part is well behaved hotel staff.
Staff was between indifferent and rude the whole time.
The hotel staff was bery bad attitude attending

The staff were not overally helpful or polite.
The staff was not friendly at all.
The staff members were very rude.

Location: What guests say

Guests often valued the hotel for access to Pratunam Market, Platinum Mall, Indra Square, shopping and Indian restaurants; some also noted proximity to the airport rail link. Others found the congested area dark and awkward to reach, with limited nearby public transport, difficult or costly taxis, and a nighttime entrance closure that requires a detour.

Although quite far during night time as the back gate of the hotel is closed from 10pm to 8am, you have to walk around the hotel to get to 711 which is about 15mins from the main gate.
The only good things around in a walkable distance are the shopping areas and malls and a lot of seven-elevens where you can get your daily requirements at a decent cost.
The hotel was in a very congested area and only if you want to do any shopping in Indra market or want to have indian food, this is a OK place.

A strange procedure followed by this hotel is to lock the main entrance after 9pm and after that time you have to take a big detour to reach the hotel.
Reason we arrived hotel at 3am - our taxi driver does not know where is the hotel (probably she is new) and she went round and round,
There were too much noise all night in the lobby.. not at all quiet place to live so i had to change the hotel..

The property is well located near amenities, public transit, good food and shopping but directly next to highway and very low end residences.
Strangely the main entrance is closed at night requiring an extra 5 minutes of roaming in dark alleyways to find the way back.
Some of the taxi drivers (especially from the airport) are not familiar with the location and it is quite difficult to find.

Location a little hard to find but close enough to the local nightlife in a short taxi or Took Took ride.
The hotel is located in an area that suits me for closeness to Airport Sky train, Pratunam shopping and eating areas.
Mostly Indian Restaurants and bars nearby which is not a problem but i feel is something anyone booking should know.

Being close to Indian food and Indra square are the 2 important places very easily accessible from the hotel.
The location was perfect for us - convenient to shopping centers, which was a big win for the family!
I think it should be on the website that it is in an “Indian” area as opposed to authentic.

The neighbouring areas have a lot of Indian restaurants and shops, mushrooming around, offering indian food and groceries.
The place is near markets: This hotel is walking distance to Pratunam Market, Platinum Mall and Central Mall.
The area was full of Indian restaurants which was not what we were looking for being in Thailand.

Good luck trying to get a taxi anywhere for under 150 baht, they know you're a captive market.
Literally spent like 30-45 mins just to find the hotel when we were already in hotel's area (Makkasan).
We were pleased with the location, it being central and close to the railway station, shops, etc.

Taxis outside the hotel are very expensive and even the ones the hotel provides.
This is a big inconvenience and hassle for the guests.
It’s located in the centre of the shopping places

Suggest to have more street lights around the hotel.
Nearby Indian Restaurants are there for good food
Only the location was near indian restaurants

We liked everything i.e., hotel location,
Entire surrounding area was under construction.
Nothing other than the location

Breakfast: What guests say
View Bangkok Palace Hotel45 relevant reviews
Breakfast reviews are mixed, but recurring complaints describe a repetitive, basic or low-quality buffet with limited vegetarian choices and a strong Indian focus. Some guests praise the wide selection, including Thai, Indian, and Western dishes. Long queues for made-to-order eggs or dosa and crowded service are also reported; one guest noted bugs near the food.

Breakfast was going to be stopped right on 10am or as it was before 10am so don't plan to get there late and linger as it WILL be packed away lights and air conditioning off at or just before 10am.
If you are an INDIAN then not many breakfast options but on the other hand there is a seperate section where only chinese and americans do their breakfast and its lot better compared to the indian breakfast
The only concern was to have a doosa we have to wait for more than 5 minutes in a single que as a single person is preparing.

This happened to me two times and I saw another foreigner also get furious when he returned to the table after picking up a drink.
We were happy to see the breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of choices, keeping everyone in the family satisfied each morning.
MWF menu is different from TTHS, something like that so the food won't get too boring to eat.

Bugs all over The room and even at the breakfast counter moving over the food as well.
Buffet food: The buffet food is quite nice but I sure hope they have broader menu.
Sausage, eggs, noodles, cereals, bami, stirr fried chicken, french toast, 3 indian dishes, fruits and salads.

Those who clean the tables take your plate away when you just go to pick something.
Only 2 mixed vegetables 1 chicken with onion and need to treasure hunt for the chicken.
Breakfast with a wide choice but all first-price items that even a dog wouldn't want,

The morning breakfast was on Asian and international buffet which have a good spread.
Too many guests at breakfast with not enough staff to cater for the needs.
The hotel staff had the courtesy to give our family a packeted breakfast.

Little or no cost alternatives to cereals and jam would be an improvement.
Good breakfast, and staff take care to separate private travelers and tour group.
It would have been better if the food was slightly different everyday.

Breakfast menu was designed to cater to Indian tastes- which was good.
I hope they have more beef or pork viand on their menu.
But my friend saw a cockroache near the fried egg station though.

Everything was good though, or they can have differing menu everyday.
Not a lot og vegetation options are available worst breakfast experience.
1 fried rice 1 plain rice and 1 plain fried noodles.

The breakfast buffet is just good, lots of variety though.
For vegetarian people there are less options for breakfast
They also have bread, spread, coffee and tea.

30 minutes wait for 1 person making eggs.
Breakfast is good, wide selection of choices.
Breakfast esp indian and thai

Facilities: What guests say
View Bangkok Palace Hotel31 relevant reviews
Drainage problems were especially recurring: sinks and bathtubs overflowed, reportedly even after guests changed rooms. Many describe dated furniture and facilities, weak or unreliable Wi‑Fi, and a pool that was sometimes closed despite being advertised. Others praise the large pool, attractive lobby, and helpful staff; slow café service and limited amenities are also reported.

This is just a 3 star hotel whereas as per bangkok palace staff their hotel is 4 star but on booking.com it is still mentioned 5 star.
Men at the pool took their shorts off and swam in their shorts even though the hard to find sign shows what to swim in.
They warn you about being taken advantage of by taxis NOT booked through them... but they are in on the “no meter” scam.

Clean and well presented also staff where a as helpful as they could be in the reception and the rooms where ample.
They charge you for bringing food into your own room!! You have to buy food from them or you get fined.
They have a terrible exchange rate which is way worse than the tons of places to do it right outside.

Woman’s sauna has been non operative for a long time and pool towels are overdue to be replaced.
The property has a funky smell in the hallway that can be associated with old buildings.
The wifi on and off in the lobby and not good wifi in the room.

The swimming pool was non functioning which was my reason to choose this hotel.
With the number of tourists in lobby with no sitting place is shabby.
A good budget option with a nice outdoor pool and a gym available.

We changed 3 rooms but same as drainage at choke and overflow.
Extremely satisfied on all the facilities provided and most of the staff
There is a pool but I dint get time to explore.

They chould inform on page that they are closed on Sundays.
Apart from this, no wifi working, speed less than 10-20 Kbps.
The Hotel does not have any facilities of 4/5 star hotel.

No facility provided by hotel which mentioned time of booking
Swimmimg pool closed even though listed as available when booked.
Understaffed cafe (30minute wait for cappuccino and stale croissant)

The cafe counter in lobby offers some good bakery.
Hotel is geared towards those from India and Pakistan.
Nice big pool where you can do serious laps.

24 hours Security lockers is one more added advantage.
Wooden benches have been placed in lobby for guest.
The hotel takes ages to provide room service.

The hotel was well maintained.
The bathroom was completely broken.
Drainage system too bad.

Check-in / Check-out: What guests say
View Bangkok Palace Hotel27 relevant reviews
Check-in and checkout are often slow, with reports of reception queues, paperwork, and staff struggling to manage busy periods; one guest waited 30 minutes to check in. Security deposits—reported as 1,000 or 2,000 baht—can add friction, including delays while minibar use is checked before refunds. Some guests report a quick, pleasant check-in, while another says paid late checkout was not honored.

30 min check in and 20 min check out whilst they check if you have been drinking any of the minibar before you get a 2000 baht CASH deposit back.
Bac side entry closed at 10:30 PM where as at international tourist place there should be 24 hours in - out to be opened with security.
The hotel does not allow staff to go up to our hotel when we ordered for delivery. We have to go down and collect it.

Treatment at check in worse, with a total power cut due to 'maintenance'; same for rooms, 6 PM or so room electricity worked.
Told by the two service staff at the counter and one manager, Ms. Penn that my room was for one pax only.
I also paid for late checkout, but got kicket out LONG before agreed time at 1500 and still lost my deposit.

Check out at 5 am of big groups of tours, shouting and making noise in morning no body was warning them.
On arrival we were offered early check in for about £50 which we turned down and decided to wait until later.
Only gripe was the lack of invoice during check out although they had initially opened a charge on my credit card.

This hotel takes Security amount on Chek in & do not allow to stay in room extre for a minute.
She told us that actually we can stay on - and that no money is required for the 2nd pax.
While checking out, there was a queue at cashier & hence requested the reception staff to cover for cashier.

Very slow to check in and out because of additional rules required to manage such a large property.
Upon check out, one of the hotel staff was puzzled as to why we were checking out earlier.
We arrived back in Bangkok very early that day and reached the Cockroach Palace Hotel at about 6am.

We were left with no other option but to check out 2 days prior to our reservation
When we went to front office and asked for check out, they guys asked to wait.
The staff was unable to handle the customer queue upon check in (waited for 30 minutes).

Was only told verbally that my credit card was not charged which was not very reassuring.
There is a weird practice of 1000THB to be deposited at time of check in.
End up told me I have to pay extra (for the second pax) upon check-in.

In the end, we didn't stay for the entire duration that we booked (paid for).
Above all we shall be prepare for getting the luggage from vehicle by yourself.
I stayed a week and couldn’t change hotel cos I paid upfront.

Waiting in the line at reception for check in is horrible.
We have to cheque out in the early morning.
Check in and enjou stay here is very nice

Extended check out time swayed me on this occasion.
Poor experience during checkin
Check in asap

Pool: What guests say
View Bangkok Palace Hotel17 relevant reviews
Guests often describe the pool as nice, beautiful, or large, but several report it was closed or under maintenance, with some also finding it shaded all day because the building blocks the sun. Other drawbacks include a 6 p.m. closing time, noise, and no poolside bar service.

The pool is on the north side and is therefore never in the sun, always in the shade, and didn't look very inviting overall.
Also the pool is only open til 6 which is silly, since the photo shows it at night... it should definitely be open longer.
Pool is nice but has no sun... Sun is blocked by building and theres no service or anything.

I also picked this hotel because of swimming pool and a gym, but of course those where closed.
There isn’t really a bar outside, the staff has to go inside to get the drinks.
Swimming pool: It is under maintenance, not sure until when but it is currently closed.

90% of the clientele was Indian who swim fully clothed in the pool
Noce swimminh pool also big here so you can enjoy stay here
We're there from Sept 12-15, and it didn't open.

We didn't bother to ask when it'll be opened.
Pool, fitness center and business were all shut down.
The pool area is nice but very noisy.

Be warned the pool shot is definitely photoshopped.
The pool is very nice.
Swimming pool also not working.

The pool was amazing
Hotel has good pool.
The pool is beautiful.

The pool being clean
Nice pool and gym.
Pool facilities

Ate in restraunt food good but had to wait an hour for sandwiches and a 🍕 pizza, and it wasn't,t busy
Restaurant at lobby is good for coffee only, you can buy food but i dont recommend.
Restaurant was 24 hours so you can order food anytime of day.

I can get the same quality of Thai food back at Singapore.
Indian food restaurant on ground flow was not having any choices.
Indian corner was good, but need add few items.

The food was also delicious with many varieties.
Restaurant and food and bar were awful...
The lobby restaurant was a pleasant experience.

Cockroaches at the restaurant and everywhere.
Otherwise, the 2 restaurants were pleasing.
They had a ... restaurant.

But value for price.
Food

The gym should be open later, and it was inconvenient.
The gym having a decent range of equipment
The hours are a little minimal, however.

The gym could use some updating.
Both facilities close at 5:30 pm.
Hotel has good ... gym.

They had a decent gym.
The gym is well equipped.
They had a gym.

Nice pool and gym.

We ordered a cab for 5am to get to the airport and also didn’t have one until 520 and if you travel internationally you know how frustrating that was for us.
Hotel should’ve opened the back door gate for ppl who likes to hang out at night.
We had to walk around the hotel to go in through the front gate at 10pm.

So, download a local app for transport and food delivery.
Yet in 650 meters distance we had a MRT.
Nearest station is ARL Ratchaprarop about 700m away.
