Guests frequently praise the clean, spacious, comfortable rooms, modern design, helpful friendly staff, and convenient location near transport. Many would return and consider it good value, but repeated criticism says it falls short of five-star standards, with expensive pricing, a cramped lobby, and occasional room issues such as malfunctioning TV access.

Other than the above issues, it was a comfortable stay however, I would try somewhere else in Bangkok if I were returning.

★ 8.0Partner

It’s definitely not a horrible hotel though, but for what they claim it is, it didn’t live up to it.

★ 6.0Partner

Staff went above and beyond to be helpful, and we needed plenty of help as first-time travellers to Thailand.

★ 10.0Family

The price of staying is expensive btw, I hope I could choose other cheaper hotels with better interior design.

★ 6.0Partner

The hotel is very well situated to walk around the city with close transport links.

★ 10.0Family

The decor is well thought out with an eclectic mix of modern and decoish style.

★ 10.0Partner

We definitely recommend Akara to anyone as a great place to stay whilst in Bangkok.

★ 10.0Partner

The hotel is 5 star rated however, I would not agree it is.

★ 8.0Partner

Can highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again on our return.

★ 10.0Partner

Hotel lobby is small and compact, 15-20 people there easily looked crowded already.

★ 6.0Partner

One week stay, very nice hotel along with great staff outstanding service.

★ 10.0

Thanks especially to Thurain! He came to our rescue more than once.

★ 10.0Family

The hotel itself is beautiful with all the amenities you could need.

★ 10.0Family

This is a very nice hotel, and it was my second stay.

★ 8.0

At the price point I think there are better options in Bangkok.

★ 6.0Partner

This hotel isn’t bad, but it’s not 5 star worthy at all.

★ 6.0Partner

Place is clean but there were malfunctioning conditions like the TV access;

★ 8.0Partner

This hotel is very nice and the staff is very friendly.

★ 4.0

I am unsure why it is listed as a 5 star.

★ 6.0Partner

Comfortable and easy place to use as our "home base."

★ 10.0Family

Property is very clean and rooms are clean and comfortable.

★ 10.0

However, it’s probably the most spacious at that price point.

★ 6.0Partner

Overall a good experience, not without it's issues though.

★ 8.0Partner

Other than these issues it was a pleasant stay.

★ 8.0Partner

The hotel is nice and near a train station.

★ 8.0

This will become our Bangkok preferred hotel, for sure!!!

★ 10.0

Wonderfully clean with great staff and facilities.

★ 10.0Partner

Fall short of a 5 star hotel.

Rooms: What guests say

View Akara Hotel Bangkok

36 relevant reviews

Rooms are often spacious, clean, attractive, and comfortable, with large beds and occasional strong views, but recurring complaints include poor soundproofing, train or neighbor noise, faulty TVs, and slow Wi-Fi. Some guests reported odors, dirty fixtures, missing toiletries, linen concerns, leaking tubs, and awkward separate toilet and bathroom layouts.

Every time i took a shower it would set the smoke detector off and front desk would send someone up to make sure i was not smoking in the room this happened 5 different times and was great having to explain to staff that im trying to take a shower just in a towel.

★ 8.0Partner

The photos of the room we booked showed a shower as well as a bath - don’t be fooled, there is only a bath with a shower on top and a slightly dingy shower curtain.

★ 4.0Partner

The shower area (mini tub) is not suitable for the elderly as you have to make a big step in and out of the tub and it could be slippery after the shower.

★ 8.0Partner

Once I checked out and had to go back to the room to retrieve a forgotten item, I saw a gentlemen only making the bed instead of stripping the sheets.

★ 4.0Partner

There is a faint smell of the toilet in the room, which goes away after leaving the air purifier and AC on for a while, but it comes back everyday.

★ 6.0Partner

However, the actual toilet is separate from the bathroom (completely across the room) which is a little odd when you have to walk across the room to wash your hands.

★ 6.0Partner

Kind of a weird set up where the toilet is on the opposite side of the room so you have to walk across the room Jusf to wash your hands.

★ 6.0Partner

The handle on the basin’s tap was loose and shown signs of multiple fixes, but it comes off all the time when I try to use it.

★ 6.0Partner

The wash towel was not stained but was dirty due to the fact that my feet got dirty from walking in Temples with shoes and socks.

★ 4.0

Some issues that were poor were that the bed linen and towels definitely were not changed everyday despite the room being asked to be made up.

★ 8.0Partner

The TV wasn’t working when we got to our room and unable to fix it they left us with a keyboard to navigate the channels.

★ 6.0

The room was very clean with only a few things looking out of place ( the air vents were hanging out of place a bit).

★ 8.0Partner

The room I stayed was a deluxe room and the design was quite unique as the WC is separated from the shower area.

★ 8.0Partner

We phoned up for some ice to be sent to our room and they kept asking what we wanted with our rice.

★ 6.0

It was such a relief to step into the quiet of the hotel after the hustle and bustle of all the activities.

★ 10.0Partner

Secondly, there was some dirt or potentially human waste on the bidet hose, which clearly wasn't cleaned properly before we checked in.

★ 8.0Partner

The bathtub, while usable, leaks water very quickly, so we had to leave the tap on if we need to use it.

★ 6.0Partner

The rooms feel luxury and Hugh quality although they are a bit small but for the price it's completely worth it.

★ 10.0Family

My room had a funny odor coming from one of the drains, which is why I’m rating this hotel a 4.

★ 8.0

The wifi was very slow, tv didn’t work, the room had an odd smell, they only gave you one key, etc.

★ 6.0Partner

It was so clean as well and my room on the 9th floor had such a great view of the city.

★ 10.0

The single room I had was spacious with an interesting set-up, with a separate room for the bathroom and toilet.

★ 10.0

There was a dry spill on the floor and stains on the bathroom sink and desk.

★ 4.0Partner

The only thing was that the tub and the shower curtain were a bit dirty.

★ 8.0Partner

The room was exactly like the photos and internet access was quick and reliable.

★ 10.0

The bed is a bit high for those who might have mobility issues.

★ 8.0Partner

Marble and wooden floors with rugs made it really homely and comfortable.

★ 10.0Partner

Objectively, the room looks like the photos and it looks good.

★ 6.0Partner

However, the hotel itself is much smaller than I thought.

★ 6.0Partner

Room is cool with large jetted tub open balcony.

Staff: What guests say

View Akara Hotel Bangkok

32 relevant reviews

Staff are the hotel’s most consistently praised feature: guests describe them as warm, friendly, attentive, helpful, and willing to go above and beyond, with Ray receiving particular praise for transport, sightseeing advice, snacks, and family support. Service can be inconsistent, with inexperienced or less proactive employees, limited English, and one reportedly unwelcoming front-desk manager.

He did above and beyond for us starting from arranging our transportation, gave information about the tourist attractions spot that we wanted to see or need to see, made our stay more comfortable less stressful and ending with good free snacks daily that he always reminded us about the snacks and entertainment with kids that made our stay more relaxing!

★ 6.0

Staff members also had a very poor grasp of English as when asked if we could book afternoon tea 4 times (also showing a photo of the afternoon tea) we would not get through to them.

★ 8.0Partner

One of the poor employees has to come all the way down to your room, give you the menu to look at, take your order, go back upstairs and then come down with your food.

★ 10.0

The staff were fine when asked to help but compared to the rest of our stay around SE Asia, they weren’t proactive at all, just sat back where ever possible.

★ 4.0Partner

Would suggest the waiters clearly explain the food choices on the menu, especially if they are different than what is pictured on the menu.

★ 8.0

The staff were all so lovely and helpful - special mention for Kaye, Ray, Rich & Chay who were so courteous and kind.

★ 10.0Family

I do appreciate the hotel took the trouble to provide a cake but I just wondering how come the decoration was inconsistent?

★ 8.0Partner

All other staff were good ….. Just Front Desk Manager was not nice Front Desk Check In (Normal Staff) we’re good.

★ 6.0Family

The hotel itself has warm and friendly front desks and an amazing hospitality (free afternoon snack prior to check in).

The hotel’s strongest advantage is its convenient location near Ratchaprarop Airport Rail Link, enabling an easy, inexpensive airport journey and access to Bangkok transit. Guests repeatedly praise walking access to Pratunam Market, Platinum Mall, shopping centers, and nearby sights. Some report train/highway noise and an unattractive view toward a slum area.

Bangkok was the first stop in our trip, and I really liked that this hotel was close to a lot of the activities we planned.

★ 10.0Partner

Defo recommend that you take the train from the airport as it’s only 35 mins and far less time and cost than taking a taxi.

★ 10.0Partner

Confidently located next to one of the train stops to and from the airport which makes it very easy to beat the Bangkok traffic.

★ 10.0

This property is a walkable distance to the Pratunam shopping district which is sooo appreciated, especially if you love their morning wholesale market.

★ 10.0Friends

Hotel is actually tugged away from the ever busy Pratunam area which was part of the reason why I chose this hotel too.

★ 8.0Partner

We were within walking distance from Platinum mall and baioke towers shopping area (both excellent places to find a bargain).

★ 10.0

Hotel is ideally placed on the direct airport rail link, and therefore easy to utilise the other rail/metro options.

★ 8.0Partner

Next to a noisy highway, but wasn't a major issue being in a big city where it's noisy everywhere.

★ 10.0Partner

Location is really good too, managed to walk to quite a few places and avoid the Bangkok traffic.

★ 10.0Family

The view we got, facing the train station, looks down on what seems to be a slum area.

Pool: What guests say

The rooftop pool offers excellent city views, a pleasant bar and a clean, relaxing setting that is often uncrowded. However, it is consistently described as small or narrow, with short opening hours; it is also shallow at roughly 3–4 feet, making it better for cooling off than serious swimming.

Some of the reviews mentioned the pool being small but I didn't see an issue with that as it was never crowded during my 6-day stay.

★ 10.0

We didn't use the rooftop pool but it's next to the bar and the views at night with the city lit up are super!

★ 10.0

It's also only 3-4 feet deep so it's perfect if you don't know how to swim like me.

Breakfast: What guests say

Breakfast is repeatedly praised as delicious, exceptional, and varied, with changing daily choices and both Asian and Western options. Complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, and 2pm snacks add value. A minority found it disappointing, inconsistent, and poorly tasting; it may suit Asian preferences more than Western ones, and fresh pancakes were requested.

The only recommendation I would make is that they make pancakes fresh not in advance but this is true of most hotels in Thailand not just Akara.

★ 10.0Partner

I had a blackout there for 2 hours and that was enough for the breakfast bar to give me norovirus.

★ 4.0Partner

I would say though, the breakfast was probably the best selection of food that the hotel has to offer.

★ 8.0Friends

Breakfast caters more for Asian visitors rather than Western Visitors but that’s not too much of an issue.

★ 10.0

We opted to have breakfast at the hotel and then headed to the mall.

Facilities: What guests say

Facilities are generally attractive and convenient, with elegant marble decor, a rooftop bar and pool offering striking Bangkok views, generous afternoon refreshments, and efficient elevators. Recurring drawbacks include unusable WiFi throughout the property, inadequate meeting facilities, no hot coffee or tea, and a moldy shower mat needing cleaning.

The view of Bangkok from the bar on the top floor was unbelievably beautiful and definitely a big draw for the hotel.

★ 8.0

They also have a lounge area with free snacks and nibbles which was beyond simply basic nibbles rather delicious and extravagant.

★ 10.0Family

Nice pool with a view and above that a great rooftop bar which also served a selection of different food.

★ 10.0Partner

As for the remaining services of the hotel, I was pretty happy as they provided free light refreshments between 2-5pm.

★ 8.0Partner

The one room they labelled meeting room does not open at night, has no plugs, and has no WiFi.

★ 4.0Partner

Had a wonderful stay with stunning facilities, including easy access to the many markets and shopping centres.

★ 10.0Friends

The only setback is that they don't serve hot coffee or tea. Maybe that can be considered.

★ 8.0Partner

My only complaint is the shower mat had mold on it and needed to be cleaned.

Restaurant feedback is mixed: guests praise the breakfast selection, rooftop dining, drinks, and creative happy hour, while others found meal choice average or food disappointing. Reported problems include meals arriving at different times, a Filipino dish not matching its menu description, and expensive Barracuda Bar drinks with limited evening opening.

The drinks in the barracuda bar are extortionate for the location (£6 per bottle of beer is more than London prices) and doesn’t open until 6pm.

★ 4.0Partner

It was inedible, but due to the language barrier, we were unable to explain why we were unsatisfied with the meal.

★ 8.0

We enjoyed the Rooftop Bar and Restaurant where we drank and ate for the one evening we stayed there.

Check-in is generally easy, and staff may accommodate early arrivals, with one guest receiving a clean room by 9:30am after arriving at 8am. However, standard rooms may not be ready until 2pm, requiring luggage storage. Guests reported cash deposits, damage-related charges, an unclean room, and no airport shuttle despite unclear listing details.

I would have rated this hotel at least a 4, however the night before checking out the hotel informed me I would be charged 200BHT for a stained wash towel.

Firstly, our transfer from BKK airport to the hotel didn't show up, apparently because the member of staff left the company before booking.
