Guests frequently describe Akara as beautiful, elegant, clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with classy boutique design, friendly service, good value, and an excellent rooftop bar and view. Repeated drawbacks include small rooms and pool, slow Wi-Fi, unavailable services, aging interiors, and a serious two-day water outage; its location often requires taxis.

Beware though, even though hotel services are advertised, they were not open…..and this is the 3rd year of Covid where all hotels have opened.
I think it has seen better days overall and would have to be updated soon to keep up with the prices they charge.
It's a beautiful hotel but I felt a bit gloomy and the entrance and the reception doesn't look elegant as in pictures.

Overall we had a nice stay and we will still choose this hotel if we will be staying in Pratunam again.
Everything has a very classy high class feel to it, for the price we paid, it was a bargain
The hotel is located outside and we always have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to see anything.

The hotel looks much better on the pics, in real life it is not as luxurious as that.
Water was off for TWO days (one evening and one morning - no reliable alternative offered - unacceptable)
We stayed for wedding anniversary and they provided complimentary bed decoration and even a cute little cake.

It has a cookbook library and free snacks and drinks for a few hours in the afternoon.
All Was Great! I will stay at the Akara next visti to the City of Sin,,, Bangkok.
The bartender made me a Martini from james bond although it's not a perfect Vesper Martini.

Property was clean and well maintained with several restaurants and a picturesque rooftop pool and bar.
Elegant oasis in the city that looked and felt waaay more expensive than it was!
Best bang for the buck, despite the very slow wi-fi (which really should be changed).

We liked everything about the Hotel, the hotel itself is very beautiful, clean and amazing
Whenever we are in Bangkok, we ALWAYS book at Akara. Every time a pleasure.
They had an afternoon snack with some local snacks which were a nice touch.

This hotel does not deserve a 5star. It’s more of a 3star.
Highly recommend this hotel, we were so happy with our stay.
Had everything one needed plus not too big so not crowded.

Its a good hotel but its not a 5 stars.
Beautifully decorated hotel, maintained to a very high standard.
Great stay but with a huge flaw: terrible wifi

Fantastic hotel that's well appointed and very comfortable.
Good for 1 to 2 nights
The hotel was nice and simple.

The place is clean and beautiful.
They organize suite for anniversary.
The hotel was really nice.

Rooms: What guests say
View Akara Hotel134 relevant reviews
Rooms are often reported clean, well equipped and comfortable, especially the beds; some are spacious, with distinctive European design and marble bathrooms. However, size varies sharply, with repeated complaints that rooms are tight for the price. Recurring concerns include awkward separate toilet/bath layouts without a sink, poor views, noise, mold, odors and dated fixtures.

The amenities given in the room is really great, suck as JBL speaker for me to play my YouTube songs, the big Philips Hair dryer, the water bomb for bath tub, the wine glass, whisky glass, ice tong.
1st day : When we arrived we got a lot of problems about the room such as the cleanliness, the bed sheet made me feel so itchy and my belly and back got a lot of red rash.
Not thrilled about the bathtub/shower ( circular Tun with angled sides made getting in and out a tad annoying, but it worked and the water was hot so all in all a good place to stay.

The toilet is completely separate from the bathroom and has no handbasin so you have to walk to the separate bathroom ( I like to wash my hands immediately after using the toilet).
I would say it's not ideal for long stays because the room is small and when you have a large suitcase, you don't know where to put it.
The second person who gave us a room in the afternoon told us she was giving us an upgrade, still twin room which was important for us.

The soundproofing of the room wasn't fantastic as well since we were able to hear people talking outside our rooms and the doors opening and closing.
The room was beautiful but the toilet was separate from the basin so you needed to go into another room to wash your hands.
Sadly to say but we noticed some spots on the covers of the blanket and the bathtub was a little rundown.

Room was comfy and theres a tablet which conttol the lights and the aircon was so convenience for me.
There was work being done on the building so the corridor on our floor was very hot.
The walls are thin, so you can always hear people in the hallway and doors slamming.

I also had to send for clean towels one of which was caked in dirt.
Bathroom was actually on the outer side of the room and had a glass door.
Spacious and clean room and it was exactly as the pictures in the page.

Rooms weren't perfectly clean, smoke smell in the bathroom of our non smoking room.
The rooms were not that soundproof, so we could hear everything in the corridors.
Shower leaking when in use in the bathroom, bathroom shower door didn’t close.

The picture may make it look like a spa….but it was definitely not.
They ddnt clean my WC for days I had to ask for
I'm not sure why the hotel is so high up on TripAdvisor.

The hotel is very nice and the room was big and clean.
Toilet in separate cubicle with no sink opposite side of bedroom.
There are mosquitoes in the rooms. Two were killed by me

Moreover the shower water in the room was very cold
It was clean and housekeeping did a great job.
Nice rooms especially at higher floors with nice view.

Rooms are very nice and extremely comfortable too!
The bathroom is really cool and something different.
Free water bottles and room was cleaned everyday.

Location: What guests say
View Akara Hotel126 relevant reviews
Highly convenient for airport transfers, with the Airport Rail Link and Ratchaprarop/Phaya Thai stations within roughly 200 metres to a short walk. Pratunam Market, malls, restaurants, massages, and shopping are nearby. Trade-offs include heavy traffic, railway/highway noise, pollution, dirty or unsavoury surroundings, and being farther from major attractions.

As it sits very close to main roads and streets, and being an old building, it was a little bit noisy as there is no sound proofing on the windows.
It took us around 2 minutes to walk to the airport rail link, which made it super easy to get to the airport for our early flight!
The hotel is located near the metro, just two stations away from Siam Paragon, where you can enjoy delicious food, go to the cinema, and more.

Location of the hotel also was quite good, there is a street market just around the corner and some nice neighborhoods easily reachable by walking distance.
Very nice hotel close to the train station for the airport so for that reason it was perfect but also not too far from bkk central
Very good location, right in the middle of the real Bangkok with all the noise, street markets, food etc but still quiet en felt safe.

Not in the best part of town although you are next to the train that can get you to different parts of town easy.
Perfect hotel in central Bangkok very close to all your shopping needs and staff can sort transport if you wish to go fu
The Hotel is within walk-in distance to most amenities and safe and set the bar for the rest of our travel in Thailand.

The location was a little far out from the places we wanted to see but that was no fault of the hotel.
Good location, easy to get from/to Subharnapumi airport, close to the places we were interested in during our last visit to Bangkok.
Great location 2 min walk from skytrain and 5 min walk from great night markets for food, street life and shopping stalls.

Plenty of restaurants and markets in the area and very easy to get to and from the airport using the train.
The location is not the best for the main attractions, although very good for the train to the airport
Further away from tourist attractions but easy to get to and meant the area was not very touristy.

It’s so easy to catch the airport train too meaning that we could avoid hours in traffic!
Hotel is very close to the airport rail, no need to pay alot for a taxi
They are close to the BTS line but quite far from anywhere nice to walk.

A mix of street markets and street vendors to high-class shopping at Central World.
But If you are in Bangkok to visit the City its so far.
Decent location, was able to walk and explore this area of Bangkok.

Location was good for shopping area, convenient for airport link and Chatuchak.
As we were travelling with our own transport, it didnt matter much.
Convenient location with the market just a step away and shops.

Not in a busy location but really easy to get a.
Excellent location near airport link and convenience store, lots of foods.
15 minutes walk to either Platinum shopping centre or skytrain.

Lovely place to stay- near all the malls.
Great location but disappointing, better hotels in Bangkok
Beautiful hotel close to airport rail link

Staff: What guests say
View Akara Hotel122 relevant reviews
Staff are most often described as friendly, helpful, attentive, and professional, with notable praise for bellboy K. Wasachai, Mr. Wanchai, and Ray. They stored luggage and offered post-checkout pool and shower access. However, reception experiences were inconsistent, including reports of rude or arrogant management, poor communication, delayed assistance, and premature checkout reminders.

When I had an issue with no hot water in my room, maintenance was sent within 5 minutes (though it turned out there was nothing wrong with the water; I had used the wrong faucet and needed to wait longer).
Another male staff which we did not get his name working on the same shift as Ms Lek, he helped us showed some location and are very attentive with our questions (please send our regards to them)
The staff was really nice specially the doorman who always smiles and welcomes you, sorry we forgot his name but thank you for assisting me and my wife.

Customer service left a lot to be desired overall and bar a couple of staff (barman mentioned earlier, and a housekeeper) were completely unfriendly and basically ignored us.
I wondered if it was that maybe the staff were not looked after as they seemed very disconnected to their work compared to what we'd experienced elsewhere.
It would have been nice if TV was working and if there will be at least 1 english speaking staff at the Reception desk at anytime.

The staff who did my check in was quick and he also explain to me all the details even before i wanted to ask the questions.
The manager behaved like she is the owner of the hotel dominating at the reception without allowing the other staff to do their jobs properly
They also invited us to shower and use the pool after exploring the city before heading to the airport (we had a late night flight).

The hotel staff came over to knock on our door 30mins after checking out time. This is the first experience in a 5 stars hotel.
Overall, it started very badly and we contemplated going elsewhere after they were rude and argumentative with us about the booked airport transfer and miscommunication.
Staff was mostly helpful and they easily managed to give us our room for one more day even if it was a very late request.

We appreciated the effort that they put in decorating the room for my wife's birthday and the free cake that they prepared for her.
It was the only hotel in our Asian trip that didn’t make recommendations about places to visit in Bangkok when we arrive.
The 3rd time the receptionist told me she would send someone to teach us how to use it!

The lady was kind enough to offer and insist on keeping my luggage in some room.
The concierge also helped us get a taxi after our last-minute shopping before our flight
Slow and reluctant to provide us with water, when it’s 40 degrees outside…

Some of the staff only speak little english so was hard to communicate.
The staff was very professional and prepared to deal with the emergency!!!
All in all an exceptional team this hotel has in service.

We were greeted happily by the bellman and front desk.
Staff and service was fabulous- really couldn’t fault anything.
Kind, friendly and welcoming staff at all times.

A big thank you to all the staff.
The staff was very nice and extremely helpful.
Esp. Ray at the frontdesk is wonderful!

All staff were extremely accommodating and attentive.
Staff were nice but a bit stretched.
Bellboy staff extremely polite and helpful.

Pool: What guests say
View Akara Hotel67 relevant reviews
The rooftop pool is a major highlight, offering impressive Bangkok skyline views, a relaxing atmosphere, and a nearby bar with food and drinks. However, it is compact and typically has only four to six sunbeds, often leaving no space; guests also reported limited shade, early closing, worn or unavailable towels, and occasional debris or dirty glass.

There is a beautiful view, but the dirtiness killed the feeling - it didnt feel like a pool on a level of 5 star hotel.
I really liked the hotels so this is not a complaint as such- but there are only 4 sun beds by the pool.
The pool looks over the city from the 16th floor and we just lounged, swam and took in the incredible city views.

The pool only has about 5 sunbeds so if you want to enjoy the pool you will have to get there early.
Unfortunately, it was raining heavily while we were there, so we could not use the swimming pool or the rooftop bar.
Pool also too small for so many rooms in the hotel, and especially 4 sun loungers is really not enough

The rooftop pool was amazing as we had just arrived from the UK so the temperature was a little shocking!
The pool bar opens at 18:00, and there were no services for meals or drinks at all prior to that.
The Roof top Pool with a View was wonderful.. as well as the poolside food and beverage service!!

Unfortunately when we tried to go, there were no pool towels (even though it was about 12:30!)
Swimming pool not big, but when You are only two there early morning - it is enough.
Rooftop swimming pool is way too small with 5 or 6 loungers that were always occupied

Bar and pool were perfect for sitting and looking over the Bangkok skyline with a drink.
The view from the pool deck was lovely, but it was hot, no umbrellas nor shade.
The lounge chairs on the pool terrace were covered by a gazebo so couldn’t sunbathe.

Very nice rooftop bar and bar staff, also swimming pool on the roof.
Around the pool, there is a wall of glass which was kinda dirty.
Stunning rooftop swimming pool snd bar above looking at the Bangkok skyline

Pool is small few loungers pool towels worn some had bleach stains.
The pool helped us cool down and relax after our long flight
There should be more sunbeds by the pool! Now only 4.

Great place to relax and enjoy an evening drink
The pool views are the best of the hotel.
Rooftop pool, although small, was a real bonus.

Rooftop pool with lovely view of the city.
Luckily there was one each afternoon free.
The pool and rooftop bar are incredible.

The pool area is also small.
Great roof deck service and cocktails!
The pool was also great

Facilities: What guests say
View Akara Hotel59 relevant reviews
Guests repeatedly praised the beautiful rooftop bar and Bangkok views, attractive interiors, cleanliness, afternoon tea, gym, and generally good facilities. Recurring drawbacks included a small or unwelcoming pool, occasional dirty water, early rooftop closure, expensive or limited dining, missing facility information, unreliable Wi-Fi and TVs, and inconsistent bathroom maintenance and cleanliness.

2.) For the IT Department check all the connections like wifi if its perfectly working and don't put limit on the devices to connect we are in the modern world where internet is a necessity, the TV is not even working in our room.
I thought this was a little unfair considering there isn’t much else in the area, plus there are cookery schools within the building so I would have thought some sort of food would have been available to guests.
It will be even better if they had a automatic coffee machine as a complementory for the guests at the lobby . while we wait for our ride we could enjoy a little drink.

TV channels including Netflix were non-functional. TV was missing remote and staff member who lead me to my room seemed confused at how to use the keyboard to access channels
This is a suggestion to improve your service; 1. please put individual menu and all the services you offered in the room so that the guests can see it.
The hotel also have a cooking book library which for me its quite unique cos i don think i can find the same thing at other hotel.

Had to follow up on request like the safety box was not working, multiple follow up’s but it was not fixed till the end.
The somewhat careless execution of the tiling work (imprecise, unclean grouting of the tiles) and the leaking bathtub drain in the wet area.
Cleanliness could be improved with more attention. Toilet door and floor had not been cleaned and spots from previous guests remained

One of the toothbrush had a metal embedded in the brush. Very dangerous, u guys should check on yr toiletries suppliers.
All in all the place is fine, needs a little more maintenance in the bathroom such as the faucet etc.
The construction on the top floor of the pool and the impossible access on the day of our arrival

Unfortunately the cafe was closed for a private event so we weren’t able to eat anything when we arrived.
Hilariously expensive laundry service, just take any laundry you have to a local laundromat 5 minutes away. Much cheaper
Restaurants in the hotel are on different floors than what the key card holder says, and hasn't been updated

3.) For the cleaners, please always check if you clean every corner of the room and the floor.
Beautiful rooftop with a magnificent view of the most beautiful buildings in Bangkok, very nice at night.
TV controls and wifi is not so great, need alot of improvement for a 5 star hotel.

No information in the room about restaurants in the hotel, or wifi. This is pretty standard
On our second night, we booked a private rooftop party and everything was perfect.
The table that was used to eat the night before isn't cleaned.

One night there was no water supply in the sink and toilet.
Huge chunk of black mold inside one of the bath towels
Elevator was quick, - never had to wait too long!

The pool was ok, nice view, outdated long chairs.
It comes and goes, but its not pleasant definitely.
The top floor bar was small and cramped.

Lounge access was a nice little extra.
Barely any options for room service.
Hotel provides a safe and robes.

Breakfast: What guests say
View Akara Hotel52 relevant reviews
Breakfast is often described as excellent, fresh, varied, and sometimes served with city views or a rooftop setting. However, many guests consider it expensive, especially when not included, while vegan and non-meat choices are repeatedly limited. Isolated complaints mention chaotic service, insufficient tables, cold dining areas, and inconsistent omelette preparation.

Also had 2 rooms, one was with inclusive breakfast, which hotel said they were both without breakfast. Took a day or two for hotel to accept they messed up, but didn’t offer free breakfast for second room. As such we ate out for breakfast as was a cheaper option!
The breakfast was something very different from ay breakfast I ever tried and, albeit being a bit on the expensive side (for Bangkok food prices) it was exceptionally good and varied, although not too many choices for people who prefer a sweet breakfast.
Only had breakfast there once and wasn’t overwhelmed with the selection, compared to other hotels was pretty poor especially for 500thb per person.

Requested a birthday decoration for my friend and they did a simple decorations and provide us a small birthday cake without any charges.
No outdoor area for breakfast apart from 2 small balconies for 4/6 people, breakfast room too cold, too much air conditioning
There was no sticky rice mango pudding even after they have given us a voucher for a free one.

There was so much confusion over different vouchers we could purchase for breakfast and money off things for dinner.
Breakfast very average for 5 star hotel though the eggs and dessert made at the time were great.
The guy during breakfast did not know how to cook omelette. All the ingredients were falling out. Unbelievable.

I am vegan and there was absolutely nothing I could eat - even vegetarian options were very limited.
The breakfast isn’t included when you book, you have to pay attention about this during the reservation!
The breakfast was great, a wide selection and was lovely to eat it on the rooftop.

I would like more variety however, the chef was very specefic on our request.
If you don’t eat pork don’t go to this place it’s all about pork
We had to walk into the restaurant soaking wet to finally be given some

Excellent breakfast that was offered in the morning with good quality food.
A bunch of people there discover on time to have it.
Breakfast is ok, but to expencive for what you get.

Breakfast was also quite good with enough selection and variety.
Breakfast is very expensive to pay for at the hotel.
Lovely afternoon thai tea served in the lounge daily

Breakfast is pricey and wasn’t great for non-meat eaters.
I was not a fan of the breakfast options.
Lots of options and food very fresh and tasty

The breakfast was incredible- so many delicious choices!
Although I thought that the breakfast was pricey.
Afternoon tea.very strange not really accommodating for westerners.

The breakfast had a really good selection.
Very romantic suite w/ incredible breakfast!
Very wide selection for breakfast.

Check-in / Check-out: What guests say
View Akara Hotel26 relevant reviews
Check-in experiences ranged from quick and friendly to confusing or unwelcoming, with early room access often unavailable or costly. Repeated concerns included unclear card deposits, refunds taking weeks or not arriving, and waiting for housekeeping approval at checkout. Positives included luggage storage, continued facility use after checkout, and occasional efficient service.

I tried communicating that I knew I was a bit early (definitely a stretch on my side to say a bit), but I was not really able to talk without being interrupted being asked whether I was checking-out or told that there was a room for my luggage.
When we checked in there was so much confusion over different vouchers we could purchase for breakfast and money off things for dinner....it was very confusing and we just wanted to get to our rooms!
Our flight wasn't til midnight and it wasn't a problem as we could leave our cases, go out and use all the hotel facilities by taking a shower up until we had to leave

At check-in they provided us with coupons for the rooftop restaurant and bar, so we ate dinner there, and were impressed with the views and food alike!
The staff who did my check in was quick and he also explain to me all the details even before i wanted to ask the questions.
We had landed very early in the morning and were at the hotel by 8am unfortunately our room was not ready until til 2pm.

However, when we checked out of the property, we were asked to wait for housekeeping to check our room before the deposit was returned.
Not wanting to make a fuss as I was about to catch a flight, I did not bring it up with the hotel staff.
Before check out we were called twice at the room with the warning that the check out time is at 12:00 am

There was also a deposit taken on a credit card. We were told this could take three weeks to be refunded.
Our flight were delayed and we have to checked-in late but we were greeted happily by the bellman and front desk.
The hotel asked if I wanted an upgrade- I declined-they upgraded me (wasn’t even aware) and then tried to charge me.

I suppose there might have been some communication issue, but I was surprised this happened at a 5 star hotel.
We flagged both issues to the reception, but nothing was done about either for the reminder of our stay.
When we asked if there was any possibility to get a room a little earlier they were also rude.

As it was still very early for check-in, we left our luggage at the lobby and proceed with pre-registration
The hotel staff let us store our bags after we checked out, so we could explore the city.
This stay would have perfect is the hotel had refunded the ‘deposit’ they demanded off me upon arrival.

Need to wait on check out to staff confirm the room... felt uncomfortable. is a 5 star hotel.
We received no apology etc from reception when re raised this issue again upon check out.
I think it would be helpful for staff to be more clear in this area.

1st time experience check-in hotel like going interview, need to fill so many info.
Check-in was later by an hour, because the hotel had no water at all
She asked for the equivalent of almost 70e for an early check in.

The hotel even stated they would refund it, and they haven’t.
I was sort of “kicked-out” from reception upon entering at 12:45.
Not accommodating early checking (asked 3 times before arrival no response)

I have contacted them and booking.com and received nothing.
Her tone of voice was not welcoming.
From check-in to check-out

Restaurant: What guests say
View Akara Hotel23 relevant reviews
Restaurant feedback is mixed: many guests praise very good or excellent food, rooftop views, live music, and the complimentary afternoon tasting library. Recurring criticisms include high prices, small portions, limited menus, inattentive service, and occasional cold or poor-quality dishes; several guests preferred eating outside the hotel.

Food was cold , but maybe a little bit my fault or communication issue , for our dishes to be served as starters and mains in order for them to be hot , and after our starter the waitress served our food which was stone cold as was sat on the side and made at the same time as our starter , she offered to heat it up and I didn’t want to cause a fuss even though it was rare cooked steak and didn’t fancy it microwaved , this was my only bad experience, minus that it was a dream
At check-in they provided us with coupons for the rooftop restaurant and bar, so we ate dinner there, and were impressed with the views and food alike!
We ate at the restaurant and the staff were very inattentive compared to other places we had stayed over the 3 weeks in Thailand.

We ate in the hotel every night of our 3 night stay and the food was delicious and a great choice
Food is very good and the tasting library is available every afternoon from 2.00 to 5.00 exceptional and free to guests.
We found the food a little over priced for our budget although it was was very good

Rooftop bar with a great city view, as well as live music and late night happy hours
Restaurant menu is kinda poor... few choices... was deserted even on a Saturday and Sunday evenings.
The price of the food was double or triple or more depending on what you got

Rooftop bar & restaurant was very overpriced, small portions, but the food was at least good
The food was the highlight: some of the best food in a hotel I've had.
Need to re-rate the restaurant as you have to get a taxi to eat.

The evening meal at the top restaurant was very poor and expensive.
Restaurant food and drinks in the bar were overpriced for the area.
Restaurant was OK but there were better options outside the hotel.

We also had a nice meal in the rooftop restaurant.
The food was expensive for what we got.
Enjoy a Great meal in the Filipino restaurant..

Everything stinks of fish and it’s tasteless.
Live music at the roof terrace bar/restaurant.
Very strange as the breakfast was good.

Terrible food and service at the restaurant.
Restaurant, bar, service, everything met expectations.
Pleasant rooftop with bar and food.

Rooftop restaurant food is horrible.
Food was very good.
Food was excellent.

Transport: What guests say
View Akara Hotel14 relevant reviews
Excellent for airport access: the airport rail link is next door or one stop away, with journeys of about 25–35 minutes to Suvarnabhumi. The surrounding area has little within walking distance, while guests report taxi-location confusion, no hotel taxi assistance, and alleged overcharging by staff-arranged floating-market transport.

Also please don’t trust the receptionist or security for transport to floating market etc. They would work together with the place and rip you off once you get there (asking for 8,000 baht for 2 people for 1 hour in the floating market boat + 1,500 baht for transport)
Nothing is in the near neighbourhood/in walking distance if you want to see something or do something you always have to take grab or something
The hotel seem to have airport transport option but we were told no by someone at the reception.

When getting a taxi from the hotel, some drivers end up in a different location.
The lobby staff told us to put the pin location nearer to the road instead.
Not a direct link to Sky train. Or metro. But only one stop away.

And the most important - proximity to the Sky train to Suvarnabhumi airport.
Hotel do not have taxi services and they don’t call taxi for you.
It was very handy to get to from the airport rail stop

Easy 25 to airport by train which is why we chose it
Easy access to the metro trains which take you just about anywhere..
Perfect hotel for staying near the skytrain to the airport.

U will have to go out flag urself despite raining.
Close to the airport railway, affordable price.
Only 35 minutes to the airport

Easy access after landing in Bangkok
Perfect option for travel to/from airport.
The airport link is next door!

Direct link to airport Suvarnabhumi

Gym had proper equipment but wasn't maintained well as handles and attachments from the cable machine were missing.
The fitness center only has 5 machines, and one of them is a treadmill.
Gym was on the 2nd floor with a good amount of equipment.

Gym was quite complete as well so got good use from us.
They are all usually occupied by 8 a.m.
The Gym is verry good to have!

Gym,

Bathtub and shower experience was one of the best ones we've had in Bangkok; nice deep and round tub followed by strong water pressure showers.
The spa was a treat!
Jacuzzi was cool though!
