Reviews most often praise the hotel’s clean, modern, comfortable rooms, friendly service, and convenient location for exploring Singapore. Guests also highlight good value and dining options. A notable complaint is that the paid Club level was closed for an event, with guests given lobby rather than expected club views; some bathrooms could use further renovation.

Overall, compared to the expensive prices of Singapore and the pricier hotels around tourist attractions, the view and location are hard to compare, but I think it is a hotel with very good value for money in terms of reasonable location, service, and cleanliness.
Tanjong Pagar Market is right across the street for good value hawker fare or just down the street for korean or japanese food.
You could tell that the hotel was quite sparsely populated, and yet we only got rooms on the 4th floor.

I stayed at Carlton city hotel for a work trip and I was pleasantly surprised by their hospitality.
Maybe because I’ve been hurt so much by the hotels in the US with the same price.
Overall, it was a very bad experience and I would never recommend this place to anyone

Overall, it’s ok…not great compared to what you would expect for this class of hotel.
Not only is the hotel beautiful thier service is exemplary in the simplest way.
This is a beautiful hotel, one of the nicest I've ever stayed in!

The service in the club lounge has become weak compared to previous years.
I wish we could stay longer but will definitely be back soon.
GREAT Hotel with a Rooftop bar you don't want to miss.

I stayed here for a week and it exceeded my expectations.
4 star only and club facilities not worth the extra money.
Overall had a wonderful stay away from the busy city.

Lovely lobby area and swift check in with pleasant staff.
The stay was great with city view and comfortable.
There were plenty of restaurants nearby, which was convenient.

This is my go to when staying in Singapore.
Overall, I highly recommend the Carlton City Hotel.
Also so well priced I’m still shocked lol

Perfect for a city trip - highly recommended!
We will definitely come back again soon.
It was very relaxing, picturesque, and impressive.

Modern, clean and well located upmarket hotel
Our tip for those who enjoy peace and quiet (e.g. during breakfast) and want to spend some time at the hotel: club rooms with many additional services and access to the club lounge on the 28th floor
We have been ordering the Christmas Log Cakes from Carlton City Hotel Singapore for our clients since 2024, and we have consistently received excellent feedback on the quality of the cakes.

It was a surprise birthday stay; a pleasant generous slice of complimentary cake was sent to the room with a beautiful note signed off by the Senior Guest Service Agent.
I only spent one day at the Carlton City Hotel in Singapore, but the experience was absolutely wonderful and I managed to make the most out of my stay.
The 2 hour cocktail time was great for us with free drinks and finger food in the club lounge which were all delicious and enough to not need dinner.

Staff: What guests say

Staff are repeatedly praised for being warm, attentive, and helpful, especially restaurant teams who accommodate families, dietary needs, and special occasions with birthday cakes and personal attention. Guests also cite efficient help with requests, transport, and mobility needs. One guest felt judged by the front desk; housekeeping sometimes missed room cleaning but responded quickly when asked.

They both took the time to explain what was included in our room rate, amenities within the hotel & was kind enough to accommodate our request for a late check out as we had our 7 year old son with us.
These 3 lovely staff even went the extra mile and effort to make my daughter feel so special on her birthday by showering her with lots of attention and decorated our room just for her.
Ravean and Suresh have been really helpful and polite, always wishes me a good day when leaving and says “welcome back” from a long strolling around the amazing city.

Not always, upon our arrival, did the receptionists greet us; one waitress during breakfast was not considerate of the guests, there is definitely room for improvement here.
The staff at the reception are like robots, no smile, no 'good day', no 'safe travels', no 'were you satisfied', nothing, one does not feel welcome!
Devagaran And David arrange the team of waitresses to come and sing me a birthday song and presented me with a complimentary birthday cake.

Gopala went the extra mile to help my mum with her wheelchair and also got a baby chair for my niece as well.
Special mention goes to Sarah and Anusha, who served us very well in the club and gave us great tips for going out.
Friendly staff headed by Jackson who is very proactive and works with his team to ensure all guests are attended to promptly.

Happened to spill half bowl of laksa on the floor near my table and the crews immediately came and provide assistance.
The staff advised us of an excellent massage place across the road operated by blind therapists who do a fantastic job.
The staff was very much caring to meet our needs and had always a smile and nice words to say.

Her cheerful and generous disposition really was the icing on the cake too for our visit at Carlton City Hotel.
We meet once if staffs called David. He is very professional on his duty and service us very well.
Upon check out Jackson was friendly, and greeted us with a warm smile and check out was extremely fast.

Gopala and his team are the most friendly and kind staff I have met in a long time.
I had to personally inform the concierge in order to get the cups cleaned and other items replenished.
The manager in the breakfast area,Gopalan was really good and assisted us as best as he could.

What touched us the most was how thoughtful and attentive Jackson was throughout the event itself.
Our primary server, Mr DAVID was incredibly attentive without being intrusive... Make us feel like home!
The staff was extremely accommodating and helped us a lot with a problem (booking the ferry).

She greeted us with a warm happy birthday and the cake was a nice touch.
My colleagues and I enjoyed the delicious lunch and amazing service by David and Jason!!
The staff is friendly, ready to help, checked us in before 2 PM, very kind.

Ms Mai has made it a pleasant experience with a warm, and helpful welcome.
Got only 1 room card and when asking for the second one the staff was irritated as it was the weirdest request she has ever heard (it was after I had to be in the dark in the room because my husband went to swimming pool and needed to use the only one room card we got for the lift).
However, a staff member named TEO kindly waited for me, calmed me down by suggesting that since it was the first day, I must be tired from the flight, and recommended that I relax in my room for a bit and look for a bank or ATM nearby to withdraw cash and come back to the counter.

When I checked in late on the night of January 1st, I needed a card that could process foreign transactions for the security deposit, but I happened to grab the wrong card and panicked for a while looking for the correct card information, and it seemed like I couldn't find it because I was so flustered.
Fortunately, right after checking in, I was able to resolve the issue with my companion's card, and even during the time I was panicking, TEO kept a warm smile and guided me through various solutions in a calm and friendly manner, which truly moved me.
At the check in counter was attended to by Jenna and she is really nice and also she was able to provide me with a late check out (at 1 pm instead of the usual 12 noon check out timing).

Location: What guests say

The hotel is repeatedly praised for its convenient Tanjong Pagar location, a few minutes’ walk from the MRT and within walking distance of Chinatown, Maxwell and other food markets, restaurants, shops, and malls. Transit makes city attractions easy to reach, though some guests found Marina Bay or other main sights a longer walk away; one noted taxis were not readily available.

Although it is not close to the main attractions of Singapore (Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay), it is in Chinatown which is also great to explore, there are many places to eat, and it is not difficult to get a taxi to move around.
Carlton city hotel is in a very convenient location near SMRT station and China town area, there is food market cross street where you can find local food.
Location was good, 5 minutes walking distance from Chinatown and a short drive from other areas like MBS, Little India, Garden by the forest, etc.

Top location for great local food (although no shortage of that in Singapore), restaurants etc.. close to MRT if you don’t fancy walking.
Location is convenient just a few minutes walk to chinatown where it has a lot of great food open at night time.
The location is perfect for exploring the very cool Tanjong Pagar district and Chinatown bars and restaurants without too much effort.

So many choices of restaurants and cafes to choose from, and Maxwell food centre is just an easy 7mins walk.
The location was great, the view from the 22nd floor (Executive Room) was fantastic with a view of Chinatown.
This hotel was located in the heart of Chinatown and everything was very accessible by transit and walk.

Good location close to underground but also convenient if you like walking (Merlion accessible within a walking distance).
We would recommend the hotel for a comfortable and well located stay near the very efficient MRT.
Hotel's location was good very close to the MRT station allowing quick access to the underground network.

Location was great for China town and right by the train to take to downtown area.
Everything, location, room, very friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was excellent.
Close to the metro, the neighborhood is very nice, there are plenty of shops nearby

There was a supermarket right in front, and we could easily go buy water cheaply.
There's a 24 hour grocery across from the hotel and a 7-11 and mall nearby.
Not very far from the Maxwell Center and Lau Pa Sat by foot either.

I was able to conveniently use the hawkers and mall nearby in the city.
There was not a main shopping centre close by that sold clothes etc.
Location is great, 100 AM shopping center nearby and the MRT/bus lines too.

Excellent location with great access and proximity to restaurants, hawker centres and transport
This hotel is close to the metro and Chinatown is 5 minutes away.
Impeccable geographical location, very close to the Chinese district with a temple.

Great location near some local flea markets and plenty of eating options.
The hotel location is great, just a 3-minute walk to Tanjong Pagar MRT, 10 minutes to Maxwell Food Centre, and there is a food centre right across the hotel, as well as a 24-hour supermarket. Buses 80/145 get you to VivoCity quickly, and it only takes 30 minutes to get from the hotel to Universal Studios using public transport. If your travel destinations are Chinatown, Sentosa, and Marina Bay, this is a great place to stay.
The location of the hotel is quite ideal, just a 3-minute walk from the subway station, with a Fair Price supermarket right across the street, making shopping very convenient. Also, there are not many cars at night, and there is green space nearby, making walking and resting very safe and comfortable.

The geographical location is excellent! The hotel is next to Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, and there is a small public park downstairs. There are many restaurants and supermarkets nearby, and it's very lively at night. If you walk a bit further, you will find Maxwell and Chinatown, making shopping very convenient.
The hotel is located on the edge of Chinatown, in a great position for exploring the city on foot or by public transport, opposite a Chinese market where you can buy local fruit at a good price and FairPrice supermarket across the street.
Location was excellent for walking to Chinatown nearby (and Maxwell food centre! Plus another hawker centre right next to it), but a bit inconvenient for the MRT for us to go further from the area

Rooms: What guests say
View Carlton City Hotel Singapore512 relevant reviews
Rooms are most often described as spacious, clean, comfortable, quiet, and well equipped, with some guests praising city views, comfortable beds, filtered water, and coffee machines. Recurring complaints include dated or worn fixtures, mould or stains in bathrooms, confusing light switches, and humidity; some guests also report weak or inconsistent shower water.

While filtered water was available in the room, it was a bit awkward having it in the bathroom, right by the sink, as opposed to being in the main room, as many other hotels have them.
The bed is of moderate softness, the room has good soundproofing, providing a good quality of sleep. Towels in the bathroom are organized and changed daily, and amenities are provided.
The coffee machine didn't work, I called reception, nobody came up, so after 40 minutes I went to reception myself to ask if they were still coming?

Bathroom fitted with separate water filter tap for drinking and to cut back on need to buy plastic water bottles. So bring your own water bottle!
The children's bed offered at booking turned out to be a crib (according to the staff, only for children up to 2 years old).
On the first day, I saw a big towel with a clump of dried hair stuck to it, which was very disgusting.

On the second day, the room wasn't cleaned because I wasn't familiar with the equipment and didn't press the cleaning button.
A rather interesting view from the room, but otherwise a standard experience like in all 4-star hotels around the world.
I had noise the first night, but the staff moved me to a differed room afterwards then all was good.

Very quiet room with all the things you need including the holy grail - an iron and ironing board!
It was disappointing that if they had known, they could have changed it for me from the beginning.
We had an executive room with access to the club lounge which was great value for money.

The room was nice and spacious but I felt like the bathrooms were not very clean.
Alternatively, we were offered a room upgrade for +100€ per night to have an additional bed.
The bathroom had mould at back of basin, and on floor which was very disappointing.

The minibar was free, and we had access to the club on the 28th floor.
Great that the room had ironing board and iron too, plus slippers and bathrobes.
Coffee machine in the room, snacks, drinks and even bathroom scale was for us to use.

As a 5 star it should provide hair conditioner and lotion in the bathrooms.
The room was excellent, incredibly comfortable, and offered beautiful views of the city.
Lovely room, great size and seemed to be newly decorated and very clean.

It was quiet at the corridor and quiet in the room as well
Will never stay here again due to the smell of the room.
Carpet and furniture were dated, tv remote never worked so no television.

First hotel bedroom in the East I have encountered with carpet fitted.
The bathroom set up is bizarre - there is a clear glass pane between the bathroom and the main room - this means that both the main bedroom area and indeed, anyone looking in the window from the buildings opposite can see what your doing in the bathroom - very bizarre.
The rooms have very high ceilings, they’re uber quiet with road noise non-existent, are modern with USB-C outlets; albeit on the alarm clock; come with super comfy king size bed (YMMV), TOTO equipped bathrooms with bath tub - all this make it so much more enjoyable to stay here.

The only problem we had was when we were given a room on the 26th floor, and the noise from the airflow system was so loud it was impossible to sleep (it was not part of the air conditioning and so could not be controlled).
The room size is considered large compared to hotels of the same price range, and the bathroom has a bathtub. After spending a whole day out, it's quite comfortable to soak in the bath upon returning. The bathroom is also cleaned quite well every day.
At first, I was told that if I wanted a room with a bathtub, I wouldn't have a king bed, and after confirming whether I preferred the bathtub, I was told that there was one room that had a king bed and a bathtub.

Restaurant: What guests say

Plate’s Hong Kong/Cantonese buffets are often praised for tasty, fresh food, a good variety, and attentive, efficient staff who refill food and clear plates promptly. Guests frequently mention warm birthday celebrations and helpful servers such as David, Deva, and Jackson; value is better noted with promotions. Some diners found the dim sum disappointing or the spread not worth the price, and one review cited cramped seating and worn cushions.

Came to plate for a buffet lunch with friends and food was ok, service was top notch especially Gopala, Deva, July, David was very helpful recommended what to have and even make hot HK Milk tea for us.
Excellent service from server Mr. David whom went around to chat with the guest of what was must taste and what they were serving on odd and even days.
As the restaurant was full with patrons, he took good care of our elderly uncle and made sure that he was seated in a safe spot.

They continue to replenish the lobsters, crabs, prawns, sashimi, suckling pigs, bbq juicy squids, many other wonderful dishes.. Must give it a try.
The staff actually called and informed that there is a table available on the day itself and without hesitation, we went!
While the food was satisfying, I think a bit more variety in the menu could elevate the experience even further.

Breakfast was substantial, with fantastic artwork on the walls of the restaurant to calm our minds as we ate.
The breakfast was also extremely lacking; I have never had such a simple breakfast at a five-star hotel.
If anyone wants good coffee brewed by an experienced barista pl visit Carlton hotel and see Justin.

I headed over to Plate at Carlton City Hotel with my wife for our anniversary dinner.
The bar had a nice vibe and it was very busy for a mid-week evening.
Delicious food, refreshing drinks, and exceptional service from the crew made our visit truly special.

The ambience of the Plate was also perfect, very classy and nicely done up.
Had a wonderful dinning session with my family last Saturday at the Plate Restaurant.
There is a great variety of food and all of them are delicious.

Had a wonderful after-work happy hour with my BFFs at the Cooling Tower.
We also received a Kahlua & Baileys shot to end the night with!!🎉🥂🍻💯💖
Cafe Americano is SGD7 where a nice coffee shop next door is half.

Team names Jackson, Gorapa , oiw , tun tun and other staffs.
The Hong Kong buffet fare is really nice and the price reasonable.
Had a good Canton Theme Hong Kong lunch at The PLATE.

The hotel rooftop bar is pleasant, serving interesting and delicious cocktails.
They were cheerful, helpful and friendly which enhanced our lunch experience.
Laksa is good, not too salty, comes with lobster meat.

The coffee and pastries were excellent and service was quick.
The only other issue I had was waiting well over an hour to get a pizza I ordered from the Cooling Tower Club on the 29th floor because the waiter forgot to put in my order and didn’t come back to check on us after he served us our drinks and still charged us full price for our meal.
There was a large selection of items: various salad, sushi and sashimi seafood - lobster tails, crab legs, prawns, scallops hot meats - suckling pig (skin could have been more crispy), duck, pork noodles and various soups dessert - fruit, ice cream, shaving ice, chocolate fountain and small varied items unlimited juice, tea, coffee.

The spread of buffet was not impressive and not valued for money compared to the Buffet I eat in York Hotel Crystal Palace and Amara Hotel, the Buffet Dim Sum cuisines served in Canton Paradise & Peach Garden is 100% pure Hong Kong Dim Sum compared to those served at Plate Restaurant!
We celebrated a few birthdays here and Mr. Gopala went beyond his way to ensure a fantastic service for us, including getting us a suitable table for us and the kids, getting a baby chair, and also providing a complimentary cake for the birthday celebration.
I was greeted and attended by Mr. Rodney, he is very professional and suggested their Summer @ 29 cocktail drink, it is a perfect drink that is sweet with a kick, concocted by their bartender, Mr. KV.

Breakfast: What guests say
View Carlton City Hotel Singapore187 relevant reviews
Many guests praise the substantial, varied breakfast buffet, with Asian and Western choices and occasional standout seafood or freshly prepared dishes. Reviews also frequently call it overpriced, and some describe limited fruit or vegetarian options, poor or inconsistent quality, and machine coffee that is weak or only lukewarm. Food sometimes ran out or was served cold.

Despite having made a reservation for two people including the buffet breakfast, the restaurant staff insisted that only one had been paid for (I explained that I had already paid for two, but they were completely unwilling to listen). As a result, during my three-day stay, my son was the only one who had breakfast, and I could not eat breakfast at all. It was truly terrible treatment.
I would like a bigger selection of fruits, and a suggestion for the restaurant staff to monitor the availability of dishes more closely: if you arrive for breakfast after 9 AM, they do not replenish the assortment of fruits and vegetables.
Breakfast included a variety of items such as salad, Western food, local dishes, several kinds of bread, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, and we could choose from options like latte and flat white from the coffee machine, making it quite satisfying.

Opposite to the hotel were many small local restaurants providing Asian type breakfast like noodles or congee which was not what we were looking for, we just want to have a tea and perhaps a toast or sandwich.
Next morning had breakfast at Plate, food was amazing, Gopal managed to arrange for us a table of 10 at the last minute and together with his team service was very good.
Ordering breakfast delivered to your room turned out not to be very good as they wrap it in plastic wrap. This destroys the texture of everything from toast to bacon. Not recommended.

Having only 1 tea bag provided is poor and while I prefer milk to powdered creamer I was also given the same when I moved to the Swissotel the next day.
We didn't like the breakfast. The quality of the food was not good and the buffet had already been depleted 1 hour before breakfast ended.
Considering the price (about 6000 CZK/night), I expected a higher quality breakfast that included, for example, muesli, a better selection of cheeses, etc.

The chef didnt know how to make a fried egg,and it was sent back 2x until he made it well.
It feels nice only on day 01, but then from day 02, it keeps getting boring, for real!
The chef made accommodations for my husband who is Celiac so has to eat gluten free.

Breakfast was very good, and the chef team helped provide what we looked for / wanted.
We had coffee every morning at the cafe in the lobby for the six days.
Do yourself a favor and don't pay $36+ for that, it's absolutely not worth it.

For a 5-star hotel, the breakfast we ordered to the room was quite meager.
Really need to spend some time revising the quality and variety of the food.
Variety of the food in club lounge is not great, quality is Ok though.

Poor breakfast... better to go out and grab some coffee from nearby cafe.
My only small gripe is that the breakfast quality is only so-so.
The bed , the room size , breakfast offered lot of options.

Average quality at breakfast, was only very sporadically refilled, very European-oriented food
It'd have been nicer if there was a dynamic menu everyday.
Continental breakfast served in the room needs to be revised.

With a better breakfast that would have been a 10/10
The breakfast was very poor quality and limited variety.
So many great options and the staff was fantastic.

Breakfast menu was pretty much the same everyday.
But we were offered free breakfast as compensation..
We were expecting a more ”classy” breakfast.

Facilities: What guests say
View Carlton City Hotel Singapore171 relevant reviews
Guests often describe the hotel as clean, comfortable and well equipped, with a pool and rooftop bar offering standout city views. The rooftop bar can be expensive, and some guests found its food disappointing. Facilities are limited overall; gym size and condition drew criticism, while some rooms and fixtures seemed dated or needed maintenance.

The position of the soaps was not convenient when we were in the bathtub since they were in the shower: you had to stand up, get out of the bathtub, and go to the shower to get some soap.
Also we left a card in the room so the electric would continue wile we were out of the room, we needed the fridge to be constantly on for medication and would charge iPads while we were out.
Upon request, we were provided a Lavazza coffee machine, which did not function well - it was particularly difficult to operate (in terms of strength needed) compared to one of the newer Nespresso machines on the market.

Before our stay, I was told via email that two Singapore-compatible electrical plugs could be borrowed from the front desk, but when checking in, the front desk said that only one could be borrowed.
The hairdryer requires continuous pressing to use, which is somewhat inconvenient for women, but this does not detract from the overall experience. Overall, the stay was very comfortable, and I am very grateful.
Went for a snack and some drinks at the rooftop bar one night and was disappointed with the quality here too for a ridiculous price - the fries were stale and were inedible.

This hotel classes-itself as environmentally friendly, we observed ques for the lifts in the evening and were advised they turn Alf te lifts off at night to save energy.
It was disappointing to see the rather cheap Nescafe instant coffee packets and sugar provided, which is typically what 2 or 3-star accommodations in the US would provide.
They leave a thermos bottle in the room wrapped like a gift, but be careful not to open it or you will be charged for it...

We were not given the key so had to run to the reception with our swimming suits to get the key to the toilet.
They have Japanese technology toilet installed (which I love!), you can simply sit in the toilet for hours (there’s seat warmer feature)!
Not easy to plug in the hair dryer because of different voltage even though it's a Carlton hair dryer 🤪

Also has a launderette opposite the hotel which is handy when on a long holiday (Easy wash )
The lounge for club room was so bad. no foods or snacks or drinks to enjoy. useless
They use scents everywhere including on the sheets so I had a headache the whole time.

The fitness room was at its limit; it was too small and missing proper equipment.
The facilities are good, the transportation is convenient, and there are many attractions nearby.
At the same time the drinking water faucet also put out hot water.

Toilets were not accessible for the people who already checked out.
I thought there would be bottled water provided, but there wasn't.
So that from users perspective we will not have any expectations.

Our overseas colleagues loved their hotel rooms and facilities too.
The facilities are so adequate and fit for the purpose.
Excellent and very nice roof top bar, very well stocked.

The club in 2023 is a huge waste of time.
The hotel looks new with nice furniture and facilities.
It has a nice rooftop bar on level 29.

Sky bar - roof .. doesn’t open until 4pm.
It definitely wasn't great not having air conditioning.
The facilities pool gym skybar and the restaurants..

Pool: What guests say
View Carlton City Hotel Singapore91 relevant reviews
Guests often found the pool peaceful, refreshing, and clean, with some praising its size for swimming laps and its city views. Recurring drawbacks include cold, unheated water, limited sun, worn or broken loungers, and inconsistent cleaning. Several guests also noted there was no poolside food or drink service; crowding and noise from nearby air-conditioning units were occasional concerns.

The location of the hotel, the spacious room, the availability of the staff, the pool/jacuzzi area, and the quality of the dishes at the "Plate" restaurant.
Sometimes there were not enough towels to dry off by the pool, even though it was requested that we dry off after going there.
The pool was poorly maintained, with no sense of welcome – I had to go and hunt for someone to put up a sunshade.

Pool area is not amazing - not lots of space to lie by the pool and loud noise of generator or something
We didn't use the pool during our short stay, but we briefly visited the rooftop bar, which is also very nice.
The lovely rooftop pool was a welcome refresher after a day of sightseeing, especially as it is so hot in Singapore.

You can view 2 neighbourhoods hotel pools next door, their pool are being used vs. Carlton’s empty each time we visited.
The pool - no pool service for food or drinks like a lot of other hotels i have stayed in Singapore-
When we wanted to unwind, the pool area was calm and quiet, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

Wonderful experience with cocktails at the bar on the 29th floor open to the outside with views of the city.
The pool area is nice but it does not have a bar which given the climate would have been nice.
The pool area didn’t always have enough day beds available or the towels ran out, the pillows were quite hard.

They urgently need to be replaced, and perhaps a bit more attention should be paid to cleaning the covers.
The pool area was a little "tired" and needs someone constantly cleaning away the leaves from the adjacent building.
We made use of the pool and gym during our stay and they were very clean and well maintained.

The pool's location was OK, but there was a lot of noise from the building's air conditioning units.
The pool and pool deck were great to relax and refresh after a hot day of sightseeing !
Beautiful hotel with an outdoor pool that is great for swimming (25m), the water is pleasantly refreshing.

Hotel with a pool (which I didn't use, since we're running around all day in this city).
It would have been nice to have a pillow menu considering the price of the rooms.
You could also position a few loungers in front of the outdoor fitness area.

The pool is not heated, it is almost impossible to swim in it.
The pool was open for a long time and opens early.
The only thing I would criticize is the pool area.

Unfortunately, the pool area is mostly in the shade.
The pool was relaxing & rooftop bar at sunset.
The pool and gym close at 10pm.

Pool is sufficient for a city hotel
Pool area is nice and peaceful.
Has an outdoor swimming pool.

Check-in / Check-out: What guests say
View Carlton City Hotel Singapore83 relevant reviews
Check-in was often described as quick, smooth, and friendly, with some guests receiving early room access or late checkout. However, early check-in sometimes involved long waits or substantial fees, and guests reported conflicting deposit amounts, missing receipts, and delayed or incorrect refunds. Luggage storage and access to a room or shower after checkout were appreciated when offered but not always available.

When checking in, the front desk said that only one could be borrowed, and insisted that it was a plug compatible with both Android and iPhone! However, it turned out to be a plug that did not work with iPhone, so I had to endure three days with my phone's battery low, which was mentally stressful.
Keeping luggage in the lobby before our room was ready was a bit of an unnecessary fuss - very over complicated for a simple bag drop and not what we really wanted when we booked this hotel last minute after a cancelled flight.
There was a deposit taken on my credit card for $300 for which receipt the lady at the reception did not give thereafter on checking out when I said to reverse it, she did, but again forgot to give the receipt.

Our check in was delayed for an hour because we wanted a king sized bed and not have our room on the smoking floor, but in return, the front desk officer was kind enough to offer us a late check out.
We originally booked five nights, but due to the typhoon, we could not go. We hoped they would allow us to postpone our stay, but they told us the prices had increased and we would need to pay the difference.
The booking stated that a deposit of 100 SGD is required, but when checking in, the front desk said if paying the deposit in cash, it would be 300 SGD, while with a VISA card it would be 150 SGD.

What I didn't like is that they charged me a $100 deposit and then in the afternoon they said come and pay $300 for an additional night, which will be refunded when you check out
We enjoyed our stay, but do think club lounge benefits should also include either an early checkin or a later checkout, which has been included when we have stayed in other similar hotels.
Added bonus of a super early checkin to a Club room which gave us access to a special lounge with complimentary drinks, nibbles, breakfast & outstanding service by Nicholas in the lounge.

An early check-in unfortunately wasn't possible, but that wasn't a problem as we could leave our large backpacks with the concierge and thus check into our room peacefully after visiting a museum.
I personally prefer to pay the deposit in cash, but unfortunately, I didn't have enough cash and had to use my VISA. I am still waiting for the deposit to be refunded.
Even though I was right in front of them, I was completely ignored. When I couldn't wait any longer and spoke up, I was allowed to enter my room immediately.

We left the property on the 28th of December and after so much fighting back and forth till this day (January 30th 2025) I am waiting for my refund!
If you have a friend on a different floor or you want to bring someone to your room (for whatever reason!) you have to collect them from the lobby.
Official check-in was at 2 PM, we arrived at 12:30 PM and had to pay around €50 to check in a little earlier even though the room was ready!

Then make me line up another 15mins to reactivate the access card and still cannot open the room and down to the lobby and activate again,
When we checked in at q2pm as room ready they took a $125 charged from my visa without telling me because it wasnt 2pm checkin
She was able to provide me with a late check out (at 1 pm instead of the usual 12 noon check out timing).

We were in a jetlagged state after an overnight flight from Paris when we arrived to check-in our bags mid-morning before exploring.
Ravean handled well with our baggages and was so warm and friendly with us during check in and check out.
Check out in the morning, flight not until night, unfortunately no possibility to freshen up except for the toilet.

A deposit of 150 SGD is required before checking in, although this deposit will be refunded after check-out
I arrived late and was sitting for 6 nights, the nightly rate for the nights I stayed.
It is assumed when I arrived, especially since I told them that the flight was delayed.

We could use the pool and showers before our late flight even after check out
On the day of departure, we were allowed to stay in the room longer.
I paid almost 1.5 times the original amount of the first night’s cost.

Gave us a room to get changed in before leaving for airport.
Very easy check in and check out, with friendly reception staff.
When we asked for an upgrade, since our rooms were basic,

The gym is repeatedly described as very small, with limited equipment and weights; it can feel crowded, and some guests say you may need to arrive early for a spot. A few found it clean and functional, while others reported outdated equipment or a need for refurbishment. It may suffice for basic cardio.

There is a gym, but it looked a bit small; we didn’t use it after all the walking we did exploring this beautiful city!
Unfortunately, the gym was really small, and equipment is insufficient and outdated, especially for a hotel like Carlton with a gym facility.
We made use of the pool and gym during our stay and they were very clean and well maintained.

For those who just want to use the treadmill or do cardio on indoor cycling - it's sufficient.
The fitness room is also a disappointment with very few pieces of equipment and insufficient weights.
The gym is a storage room where two people training can bump into each other.

One would expect a property of this size to have a more substantial exercise facility.
The gym is small, but it's enough for a bit of exercise.
Gym was way too small .. and breakfast too expensive to bother

We didn't have time to check out the gym or pool.

Transport: What guests say
View Carlton City Hotel Singapore14 relevant reviews
The hotel is well placed for public transport, with the East-West MRT line about a two- to three-minute walk away and easy access to the airport and attractions. Guests also found taxis convenient, with one reporting a roughly £15 airport ride, though waits could reach 15 minutes for a pre-booked early taxi or over half an hour in rain.

It’s about £15 taxi ride away from the airport / if you use “grab” taxi app, which is asias uber (and very good).
I had to go to Raffles Hospital for the discomfort where they confirmed the diagnosis and prescribed medication for 10 days.
We waited nearly 15 minutes for taxi to airport in early morning (booked for us by the hotel).

When it’s raining you have to wait for a taxi more than half an hour.
We were able to experience some Singapore‘s offer of attraction easily using public transport.
The transportation is very convenient, around 2 mins walk to the EW line.

Took the opportunity to hire a cab, organised the concierge Ravean and Suresh.
It is convenient to all transport options in particular train to airport.
Not the problem of the hotel only but generally in Singapore.

My daughter and her friends used the train every train.
Very convenient to get around by taxi or by foot.
Very close to EW MRT line so easy for Changi.

Close walking distance to all modes of public Transportation
Heaps of eating and transport options on your doorstep..
Nerest MRT should have been advised in Lobby

Takes about 50 minutes from Changi using MRT.
MRT station is just 3 minute walk.
Train station close by.

I caught taxis.

The complimentary parking is great as well as they allowed multiples entry and exit, just need to remember to get the parking coupon before exiting.
I have stayed at a hotel near Orchard Rd. where the hotel had taxis wait for customers, making it much more convenient for them.
Property offers complimentary car park for guests, which is a good bonus.

There is a bus parking area in front of the hotel.
The free parking is great if you have local guests.
If possible, taxis should be allowed to wait for passengers.

Carpark fee is covered if you dine in.
Complementary parking is another plus point.
Free parking.
