Ascott Thonglor Bangkok Reviews: Everything Guests Say

The Ascott Thonglor Bangkok is hands down the best hotel I have ever stayed in, and I've stayed in hundreds of hotels across the world, including 5 star hotels at thrice the rate.

These tourists didn't stay in the designated smoking areas, so I had to breathe cigarette smoke every time I entered and exited the hotel.

Everything is great, we booked 3 rooms, the staff is simply wonderful, so polite and courteous, always ready to help suggest anything.

However, considering the common areas, facilities, and restaurants, it's a three-star hotel at best, earning a 1 out of 10.

Overall the value for money is very low and I won’t choose to stay in this hotel anymore.

5-star hotel layout, feels like home, beautiful view of the outdoor pool, great location of the hotel

I would like to see improvements in quality that match the cost of the stay.

I would stay here again but not until they have sorted out all the teething

Price-performance ratio is okay, you get a lot for a not too cheap price.

We like everything, the style, breakfast, the rooms and beds, pool, gym etc.

Could improve written communication, but a very nice hotel experience! Would recommend.

Lastly, I must praise the hotel's elevator; it is fast and smooth.

It's not what I'm used to from Ascott. It needs maintenance.

2. Regarding the hot water in the bathroom, I noticed from other reviews that many mention issues with the water. In my 8-day, 7-night stay, it starts with very hot water, so you need to fill the bathtub first and then add cold water to adjust. After a while, the hot water becomes lukewarm, about the same temperature as body temperature, and you need to wait another 30 minutes for it to circulate again. I'm not sure if it's environmentally friendly, so I just had to adapt.

The stay was really wonderful.. the hotel is excellent and clean and met all my requests.. my stay included breakfast which was very excellent and there are two complimentary drinks for each guest in the room daily.. honestly, I classify the accommodation as luxurious 10/10 and I recommend it

If you ever see this comment, just book it already , the best hotel ever , from the amenities, staff , food , location ,facilities, decoration , smells of the lobby , everything is just perfect !!!

What a fantastic property: from the cordial and exceptionally friendly staff, to the lovely makeup of your room for our anniversary, to the immaculate room and excellent Wifi, it was an excellent overnight stay.

No restaurant or room service but advertised as having but I was told it is opening soon but still not happy as I don’t want to have to leave the hotel for a dinner

Beautiful room with everything you need - body cream, hand cream, lip balm, gel and shampoo with a wonderful citrus and herbal scent (only missing a hair conditioner), there is even an iron and ironing board

The room was really nice and in good condition, I had my own kitchen and washing machine, bathroom really big, good hot water and shower pressure, very good internet.

Unfortunately the new room also had noisy neighbours, but being our last day we did not ask to change the room for a second time.

One of the room card is invalid to use, tried to ask the front desk staff to fix it but it still failed;

We were missing a clothes hanger when we used the washing machine, no electricity in the bathroom to e.g. use hair dryer.

I thought I had gotten a room for smokers, but it was gone when I came back later in the day.

You can't hear traffic or other outside noise from the room which was super important for a good night sleep.

Upon reservation, I had asked for a room with the nicest view, which was noted and confirmed "if available".

The furniture was so dirty that I asked the hotel to clean the carpets because they smelled musty.

The room had a great view, was very clean, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

We like the in room washing machine and kitchenette, wished we had more time to spend there.

Very luxurious and large room on the 28th floor with a breathtaking view (especially at night).

The room is simply huge, and there was an incredible view of Bangkok from the window.

There is hardly any space to keep one's toiletries, which made it look so cramped.

Everything you need is in the room even little snacks and espresso coffee for free.

Room was spotless!! Except for the swimming pool window-view, definitely need more attention there.

Including washing machine , full kitchen with utensils, bath / shower robes and slippers.

The french window design allows us to enjoy the view from head to toe.

For the price, the room was very large and the view was breathtaking.

Beautiful rooms, everything very clean, super equipped with free snacks to nibble on.

The rooms all have large windows that go up to the 40th floor.

We were assigned to an impeccable room that has bathtub and bidet!!

Why couldn’t I have received it from the start remains a mistery.

I live in the corner unit on the 39th floor (Room 3913).

The furnishings of my room were excellent - including a washing machine.

Fully stocked kitchen (besides the usual plates, cups and cutlery (which also include chopsticks, cutting knives, ladle and more) there are a can opener, wine bottle opener, 3 size bowls, frying pan, cooking pot, a toaster, kettle, coffee machine), comfortable bed, bath and shower stall, washer dryer, working area, bedside lamps that have a softer light.

I was given a room different from the reservation and we were not notified of this and after informing the reception about the mistake they asked us to wait until the next day in the next day after several attempts we were given the required room.

The small kitchen in the room is equipped with pots, bowls, plates, and various utensils, as well as a wash basin, allowing us to buy our favorite food during the trip and enjoy it slowly in the room.

BUT the washing machine in the third room also leaked water..... There is nothing wrong with the machines, it must be the drain that cannot handle the water and the machine spills it on the floor.

I got an executive wing with an upgrade on my booking, and the view was really beautiful. In the kitchen, you can cook anything, and honestly, the place revitalizes the spirit with its view and cleanliness.

The first time he said it was impossible, look for cash or other cards. I sat in the lobby for an hour after my 9 o'clock flight, thinking about how to pay for the hotel, since I expected all charges for accommodation to be automatically deducted from the card and I simply didn't bring any cash with me for that.

The staff went above and beyond to make my birthday special — they surprised me with a lovely birthday cake and decorated my room multiple times during my stay.

Like I put extra cushions on a side sofa on the first day as I didnt need them on the bed and they were left th.

Not to mention cleaning staff and pool staff - employee of this hotel make it the most enjoyable place to stay in Thonglor.

You can feel they are genuinely happy to see you and interested in you, not as a client but as a person.

One staff member confirmed "No need to change the room", then the next day asked me to check out the room.

I was sent to my room with my suitcase, I went to take a shower, and then the calls started…

Despite our slightly early arrival, they were flexible and attentive, and their kindness continued during our entire stay.

Runika from the front desk has been kind enough to help out by offering me to change room.

The boys who helped with the luggage and taxis were very helpful and had a great attitude!

Was not told by staff there was a shuttle to take guests to local area

A couple of times no one came to deliver water bottles, despite calling housekeeping twice.

The lady there is very efficient and correct, but could be a bit friendlier.

It seemed as if the person(s) who cleaned it knew my needs and preferences.

The team's attention to details and smiles made me feel right at home.

That is the best hospitality i ever experienced in a five star property.

Some of the staff are difficult to communicate with because of the language.

Treasure them all - Ascott Thonglor -They made your place GREAT !!

They said they will not fix it for a year or MORE!

The standout is the quality of the staff at all levels.

Staff were so helpful with arranging our transfer to Koh Chang.

The same could be said for Thai people in general

1. When entering the hotel, the reception staff will actively help you with your luggage. During check-in, the front desk staff will invite you to sit in the lounge area to relax, and after completing the procedures, they will bring it to your side for you to sign, and during this time, service staff will serve you sour plum juice and hand towels.

On the fourth day, our reservation ran out, so we went downstairs in the morning to ask if we could stay in the room and extend it for a couple more days. In response, we were told yes, it's possible, we agreed that we would go upstairs, tidy ourselves up, and bring cash, to which the girl said yes, of course!!!!

On our last day we were invited to a festival to thank the Goddess of Water - this was lovely as we were able to interact with other members of staff and felt we could be part of something that is so important to the culture of Thailand.

Upon entering the hotel, there will be a receptionist to help carry your luggage, and when checking in, the front desk staff will ask you to rest in the nearby sofa area while waiting, during which a service staff will bring refreshing drinks

It felt like the hotel wanted to provide additional service by offering to deliver the bag directly to the guest's room but it fell down in execution because it failed to do so promptly and did not communicate with the guest why.

Location is kinda outside the main shopping areas like CentralWorld and Asian Paragon but what makes this a fantastic place to stay is their wonderful staff (Job and Nina) who helped us with settle in very quickly.

The location is extremely well placed as it takes only five minutes to walk to the Thong Lor BTS station which few stations away from the major malls, with EmQuartier - Emporium only one station away.

The hotel's location is convenient, a 5min walk from Thong Lo BTS station and along the main road which is dotted with eateries and shops so it felt safe walking alone at night.

The location is also great, just a couple of minutes walk to the metro, and in 20 minutes on this line you reach Siam Paragon, etc.

The hotel is a 3-5 minute walk to Thong Lo Station so it's really convenient with plenty of food and drink options around.

Let's say it could be located a little more to the west of the city, where all the activity is concentrated.

It was far away from Siam area but so long as you know where your booking you'll be fine.

Not so close to the top touristic places so you need to be prepared to commute a bit.

The only one thing is that location is quite far away from all the main tourist attractions.

Very nice rooms and the location was good, close to the skytrain in a nice area.

And location is not the best one if you like walkable restaurants, bars and night life.

It is in an area which is accessible to everything rooftop bars,BTS and great shopping.

Nearby there is a train station that takes you to Arab Street or Terminal 21.

After traveling 2 stations to Asok, you arrive at the Terminal 21 shopping center

The location of the hotel is very difficult and on a noisy street.

Prime location, good breakfast and very good further facilities beyond the comfortable room.

Will surely consider Ascott Thonglor again when coming to Bangkok next time!

Location near Skytrain (BTS) connects easily to everywhere you need to go.

The location and the view from the 26th floor were really nice.

Convenient location with a spacious room (we got a 2-bedroom suite).

Thonglor is a nice neighborhood (actually a kind of "little Tokyo")

A very quiet area, about a 15-minute drive from shopping places

The train station is super close and taxis available 24/7.

Convenient, only a 5 min walk from Thong Lor station.

Excellent hotel right in the shopping district of Bangkok.

It is near train station which goes to Siam.

There are two luxurious malls nearby with international brands..

The pool, the view, the room, the location.

The breakfast facility I know it's a separate business but packages are sold with breakfast so hotel should take some responsibility for it, it's too small for the number of customers I took a group of 4 in and we were seated separately hard to get service eg get tea or coffee delivered to table food was only average

Although the breakfast is good, considering the location and price level in Bangkok, I don't see much point in getting the hotel breakfast, as there are plenty of great places nearby where you can eat excellently for 800-1000 Baht.

I had read several critical reviews on the hotel breakfast about the limited range of food and shortage of seating spaces, but the hotel has taken this feedback seriously and made some improvements.

The breakfast area may be a tad tight for the number of rooms, so one may have to wait for 10 minutes or so if you hit rush hour.

The waiting time is absurdly long if you want to have breakfast around 9:00; you either have to eat very early or late.

The hotel breakfast offered in the adjacent restaurant is very dull variety wise and there isn’t much value for money here.

The breakfast was decent and delicious, but the spoons and forks were dull and lacked a sense of luxury.

There were also 4 hot dishes and a soup available for those who enjoy it in the morning.

The Japanese restaurant on the ground floor, which provides breakfast for the hotel, was extremely disappointing.

Breakfast: small space, few seats to accommodate the many guests just a normal breakfast, nothing interesting.

No much variety, very crowded, no space to sit and not enough plates to eat.

The breakfast has a mixture of Western and oriental styles which my mom enjoyed.

Breakfast until 10 o'clock is very limited; an additional half hour would be beneficial.

We had to wait at the entrance for 10 minutes to be seated.

The breakfast in the restaurant was the perfect way to start the day

And variety could be improved- 4days with almost same sort was bit bore-some.

I was placed at the cooking area right next to the buffet.

The breakfast was a huge disappointment for a hotel of this quality.

The space is really too small for such a large hotel.

The restaurant “Kinki” is Japanese, but serves a buffet breakfast.

There were too many people constantly taking pictures in the pool and by the pool which meant we could not swim as a family, we was always full of people just taking photos for social media it seems and it felt awkward swimming as you ended up photo bombing and just didn't feel like it was family friendly or even swimmer friendly

I can understand this rule and accept it but but there were other people taking selfies with the same glass water bottle for hours right in front of me and nothing was said.

The pool bar (2 free drinks for ASR members) is an excellent place to unwind after a busy day in Bangkok and after a quick dip in the pool.

The pool on the 11th floor is very beautiful, and if you sign up for the hotel program you get one complimentary drink per day per person.

The swimming pool. The pool itself is perfectly fine, but hordes of guests constantly come to take photos in the pool with the buildings in the background.

- Since our flight was late in the evening, a hassle-free extended stay by the pool and a shower before departure were worth their weight in gold.

It would certainly be nice if we could sunbathe by the pool during the day, but the neighboring buildings cast a shadow over it all morning.

Odd opening hours for the pool bar - may be useful to allow soft drinks to be served throughout day whilst the pool is open.

At 11:00 AM, one could enjoy the sun, but there are only three sun loungers in the sun at that time throughout the entire hotel.

Not being able to charge drinks by the pool to the room was unexpected for such a nice hotel but not a big deal.

There is also a bar which serves drinks near the pool which we could chill and unwind during happy hour.

The pool was beautiful but it would have been even better with a bit more exposure to the sun

We went to the swimming pool but find it weird that drinks cannot bill to room

Watching the sunset from the infinity pool was definitely the highlight of my trip!

One photo is fine, but not to the extent that it disturbs other guests.

Such a spacious and well designed pool a long with great city views.

You could also enjoy yourself well in the pool on the 11th floor.

On the 11th floor, there is a pool with a sunset view too.

With its modern layout, you can overlook the city from several sides.

Even in open area like the pool area smoking is not allowed

We had to go inside the lounge area to place an order.

Also forgot to mention amazing pool with terrific view on top!

The room and the pool are beautiful and modern.

The rooftop infinity pool is a total highlight.

For such a hotel, this is really unacceptable!

And not just one photo, entire photoshoots.

There are weekly activities like working out classes, yoga, arts and crafts for kids, movies for kids (shown in the kid's room), movies for adults (shown near the pool, where you can also buy popcorn for 60 baht) at no charge, plus monthly activities like a cooking class, a trip to the planetarium, a trip to the flower market etc also at no charge (but here it's limited by numbers. you can still join if all the complimentary spots are taken, you'll just have to pay) and single activities like on international father's day (we had a mocktail making workshop at the lounge).

2. The water pressure in the bathroom is extremely unstable; the hot water for the bath turns cold before it even fills up, and you can only soak for about 3 minutes. I have already notified the front desk staff about it, and although it has been reported for repair, the situation remains the same. I only stayed for three days and didn't want to report it again on the last day.

8. The switches for all the lights are not easy to identify, and there are issues with poor contact; sometimes after pressing a switch, a light turns on for 3 minutes and then goes off, but after another 3 minutes, it lights up by itself.

The air con must have been connected to other rooms that were smoking as I woke up one of the days during my stay with a heavy smell of smoke all around.

There is a fine of 5000 baht in case of smoking any type of regular or electronic cigarettes, and even incense according to what they wrote when signing the contract.

First, there’s no socket for the hair dryer in the bathroom, so I had to dry my hair in the kitchen. Quite unusual, especially for the 5 star hotel.

I did manage to try the free tuk-tuk shuttle service which can drop residents off at selected points in the hotel's vicinity and the nearby Ekkamai area.

The water bottles are glass instead of plastic, and there are 2 trash cans on each floor. the regular one and one for COMPOST.

This hotel features a very modern pool on the 11th floor, with modern seating both in and around the pool.

The lobby is quite crowded during the day as it is a bit small for the hotel.

The coffee maker in the lounge got clogged halfway through, and it started dispensing only hot water.

No restaurant to eat which is very odd looking at the price you pay per night.

Everything is beautiful in this hotel, starting with the cleanliness, which is what I ask for

Maybe the lobby was not too fancy to put in Instagram. But cozy and comfortable.

The perfume in the lobby and the elevators was really bad or too strong.

Imagine not being able to order poached eggs for breakfast at a five-star hotel!

For the price, the value is unbeatable given how nice the facilities are.

There are enough markets, small malls, and a pool to keep you busy.

The dining facility was convenient and served a variety of fresh foods.

ASR member gets two complementary drinks daily too at their lounge.

As for the first-rate facilities, I have nothing to say.

Complimentary welcome snacks are included on the day of arrival.

The restaurant is incredibly small with a terrible variety.

The view from both bar and pool is amazing.

Very modern, design was very well thought of.

Cleanliness and water pressure/ heater could be better.

Gym and swimming pool area were immaculate.

There's a washing area in the bathroom.

The only downside was the food, yes it was delicious and tasty but did not cater to everyone, I’m not into spicy food and yet I had to eat spicy food everyday, this really affected me.

Restaurant and lobby ( it very cold ) it a no smoking policy !!!!! but not respected it smell cigarettes in our hallway !!! the should charge the fine .

And when I was at the pool I ordered some food (fish & chips and pizza) and it was absolutely not good for a 5 stars hotel.

We had a couple of dishes from the in-house Japanese restaurant (Kinki) brought up to the lounge bar and they were just perfect (if a bit pricey).

The “pool bar” is practically non existent as everytime we tried to order something from it they would tell us we needed to go inside to order

The only thing that could be improved is the lack of alternatives for food service if you don't want to leave the hotel on some days.

The menu was limited with mostly japanese items... charged us for bucket of ice and few pieces of lime (i guess nothing is free)

The property does not have a dedicated restaurant and depends on a Japanese restaurant on the ground floor to service the guests.

It does not have a range of restaurants and bars, just one, but there is so much close by it’s just fine.

That there were no Food and Drinks that could be purchased at the facility. No restaurant, bar or mini bar

Akthough we did not eat at the Japanese restaurant on premises, the room service food from it was delicious.

The restaurant setup , too small to cater for numbers of guests fo breakfast variety wasn't that great.

The kinki restaurant has great food too and very good that you can order it to your room

Some of the staff were rude at the restaurant and we experienced racism as a result of it.

Location of the restaurant/breakfast. A very small space where you occasionally had to wait for a free table.

Only place you can ear is at the first floor Japanese restaurant, but barely no one goes there.

If you buy a package including breakfast you expect hotel to have some control over this facility.

It seems the hotel outsourced it's restaurant and the staff there didn't care much about hotel guests.

We were offered 2 complimentary drinks at their own restaurant but ... the restaurant was close so.

There is a great cafe called Dark nearby for breakfast and it has many types of coffee

The Japanese restaurant on the ground floor, which provides breakfast for the hotel, was extremely disappointing.

Hopefully it would be amazing when the restaurant is fully opens in a few weeks.

The hospitality, the restaurant, the staff and premises was top notch 10/10.

There is only one option to eat - fancy Kinky Japanese restaurant.

And there are no other options for simple food like pizza/pasta/hamburger.

Mainly Japanese clientele, hence the restaurant on the ground floor.

The atmosphere of the restaurant at night was also great.

If you can just increase the options on food‼️.

The delay in the check-in process and not giving us adjacent rooms that connect to each other despite making the reservation nearly two weeks ago, and the rooms were not ready which delayed our check-in, and we were also delayed during the check-out process and in getting our bags down.

Encountered a service lapse with bag handling on the day of my check-in: I arrived before check-in time and my room was not ready so the staff took my bag for storage and I was handed a bag tag.

I Know This Is policy that it wasn't allowed to check in but ther is the lovely staff Mickey and Nod help me to check in at least I need to go police station and provide the report.

The person at the reception woke me up at 11:50 a.m. for check-out when I had told her the day before that I would stay for the rest of my stay.

When checking in, the front desk staff will ask you to rest in the nearby sofa area while waiting, during which a service staff will bring refreshing drinks

According to the front desk, there was some kind of miscommunication about checkout in another room and that resulted in staff going to the wrong room (my room).

She called me three times about this when she could have, out of consideration for my state, let me rest until 2 or 3 p.m.

In fact, i do not understand that there is no outlet in the bathroom !!!!! Not even hidden, none, not at the location near mirror.

The only thing I complain about is the price of the room when you have an early arrival due to the early morning flight

Having to pay for early check-in, but I understand that offering it for free is a practice that only a few hotels have.

Usually hotels let the customers know upfront that this is happening. While ascott didnt inform us before but rather they did at arrival!

We arrived early at 8 AM, expecting to wait for check-in, but the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us right away.

Would have been good to know on day one. So a positive really but just need to know about it on checking in!

One staff asked me to pay at check-in, told me my credit card was not working, and then I gave her another card.

The lobby was small, and during check-in and check-out, there was no place to sit when it was crowded with group guests.

Check in: was a breeze. Very helpful staff. The whole hotel is a smoke free zone, which was music to my ears!

When I returned at 4pm, I collected my room key and handed the bag tag to the staff to retrieve my bag.

We reached the hotel at 7 am but early check in wasn’t provided until 10 am even though the room was ready.

This is our second time here, the only thing is that they could be a bit more attentive when checking in.

Elevators never took long and the lobby and entrance areas with lots of trees are an immediate oasis off of Sukhumvit.

It was very pleasant that we could easily leave our luggage there after check-out and shower again before our flight.

Check-in before 2 PM and very quick (we filled out the form on the hotel website in advance)

After a day of travel we were not happy about having to wait for our room.

From the moment I checked it .they gave me a 4 hour early check in

Room cleaning should be briefly requested at the reception when leaving the hotel.

- No matter where you looked, everything was well-kept and clean and felt high quality, whether it was the gym equipment or the door handles, fittings, etc.

Gym is a little small for such a big property if you are looking to hit the hotel gym.

The gym could have more equipment. Maybe an additional bench, a bar for squats, bench press etc.

Pool, fitness center and lounge on the 11th floor are easy to access and nicely equipped.

Didn’t spend much time at the pool or in the gym but it looked pretty good.

The lobby was a little cramped if there are just a few guests checking in/out.

Maybe the gym could have been a little better but still more than good enough

Great location only 3 minute walk from Thonglor Lo metro and plenty of restaurants around.

We also loved the gym; it was well-maintained and had everything we needed.

Aircon throughout the hotel and especially the gym was a perfect temperature.

The hotel also provides a shuttle service, but if you prefer, it’s just a short walk to Thong Lor BTS station, making it incredibly convenient for getting around.

Drop off point was at the back of the building, often causing confusion to drivers who couldnt find the right point for pick up.

As with most hotels the main attractions involve a train, tuk tuk or taxi which were all accessible.

Taxis mostly don't know about it even though it's on the main street and adjacent to the Marriott

I was expecting that from a 5 star hotel in Bangkok.

The in house massage was excellent and would recommend that too.

I reserved a room massage service, and the masseuse named Koi.

Finally I missed the inhouse spa option for a massage.

The swimming pool was as great as always.
