When driving up to the gates you have no idea what's behind them but that once you step into the grounds of Chakrabongse you can feel that your stay here is going to be special and unique experience.

Well managed and quietly buzzing with guests yet we had the swimming pool to ourselves most afternoons to cool down in and recieved a free room upgrade to the Garden room.

Next time we return to Bangkok we will definitely stay here again (if they have availability that is: there are only a handful of rooms and you have to book early).

A few rooms and villas were built on the riverside property of a minor Thai princess, who lives part of the year in a mansion on the property with her children.

Fantastic property - you feel like you have walked away from the hubbub of Bangkok and into a serene oasis the moment you ring the bell for the gates to open.

In our recent years of travel this is the first place I would 100% return to as I don’t believe I could find anything better in this city.

Very unique historic facility located along the Chao Praya river with easy access to Bangkoks major attractions along with great amenities and very helpful and friendly staff.

Chakrabongse Villas is a beautiful, calm oasis in the middle of the hubbub of Bangkok, but just a few steps to the main sights and ferries.

The owner's story is very interesting, and we even picked up a book she wrote about her family's past and connection to the royal family.

Arranged everything we requested, including having a long-tail boat pick us up at the property's private pier to tour the canals.

It was the most expensive place we stayed in our 3 week trip - it was worth every penny!

Beautiful grounds along the river and conveniently located to see many temples and sites in downtown Bangkok.

Sad it could be indeed the hidden gem of Bangkok but….needs service and a good management

The highlight of our time in Bangkok: absolutely magical space, filled with history and tranquility.

The service was top-notch, thanks to the property manager Ohm - a true gem.

Same with the restaurant toilets, they need to be renovated as well.

Chakrabongse Villas is a special place.

Great location. Close to the Palace and several temples. Near the metro and the water tram station. Within walking distance to the flower market and essentially Chinatown. An excellent place for city outings. The place is a hidden green oasis in the middle of the city. Also interesting historically.

The location is unique, right on the river (with Wat Arun directly opposite and the boat traffic in view) as well as optimally situated between the Grand Palace and Wat Pho; the Sanam Chai metro station (Blue Line, 'Siam Museum' exit) is also very convenient!

It is a quiet and private oasis in a great location in the older part of the city within easy walking distance from some great sites including a canal tour in the next lane way.

It is absolutely amazing to stay at a hotel right in the middle of Bangkok, yet feel like you are living in the jungle with peace and the pool entirely to ourselves.

The location couldn’t be better being by the Royal palace and opposite Wat Arun, and eating on the terrace facing the river with all the boats and activities was wonderful.

The general feeling was one of a resort in the countryside rather than in the middle of Bangkok a short walk from the Grand Palace and a Metro station.

I watched a light show across the river at Wat Arum and another wat from my terrace last night and walked to the Royal Palace in the afternoon.

We chose this hotel for its boutique look, green surroundings, views over the river and the close proximity to the Grand Palace, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Alternatively a walk of less than ten minutes can take you to where you can take a canoe to cross the river and visit Wat Arun.

It has a lovely view of Wat Arun with lots of private little spots to enjoy the view while sipping a cocktail or having a meal.

Secluded location with great view over river and temple Wat Arun, cordial staff, great location to explore the temples (walking distance depending on temperature;) ).

Right on the river with amazing views, just up the road from the Grand Palace and Green Buddha, perfect for sightseeing on foot (or tuktuk)!

The location is absolutely amazing with Wat Pho, The Grand Palace, the textile museum, and China Town all within a quick walk.

It’s an oasis of calm with a regal serenity right by the river and superbly located for the old town.

Its location was perfect for walking to various sites, taxis and a very short stroll to the MRT station.

Right on the river, so perfect view across to Wat Arun and to enjoy the busy river traffic.

If you want to feel the pulse of the river, this is the place to stay.

The Wat Pho and the Grand Palace are like 5 minutes and 15 minutes walk.

A short walk or ferry to Wat Arun or Wat Phra or the Grand Palace.

The metro is a 5-minute walk and many important sights are within walking distance.

Great restaurants and cafes on Maharat Road, at least two are Michelin Guide

The surrounding shops are local with no hassle and good food and drinks.

The trees, plants and flowers are very abundant making it a beautiful oasis.

We were able to walk to Wat Pho and the royal palace.

Quiet at night but some lovely rooftop restaurants by the river

A truly charming and calm place in busy Bangkok.

The manager was especially helpful, as I had a problem with the rental car after my stay, I called him and he translated everything into Thai, so that my new hosts could send someone to install a new battery in notime.

There is almost no service ,impossible to get some food during the day only set menu or a sandwich who wants a sandwich when you are in Bangkok

Staff arranged a very early pickup from the hotel at 5am on our departure day but also made sure there were staff available to help with our bags.

Staff was competent and friendly, and went above and beyond to help organize a last-minute private trip to Ayutthaya (with dropoff directly at the airport).

Although this year we booked (again) through a third party, the hosts knew who we were and welcomed us back when we arrived.

The staff are so sweet and helpful; nothing is too much to ask; their style is part of the charm and ambience.

Be it the receptionist, the hotel manager or the chef (who worked for 15 years Lyon, the food capital of France).

The staff, the garden, the pool, the escape from the hustle and bustle outside is what makes Chakrabongse villas exceptional

They were very accommodating when there were any issues and Ohm gave us some good suggestions for the area.

The staff should have showed us what was public areas and what was "private" as there are no markings.

I had lost my wallet in the cab and without their help I would have never gotten it back.

There were two staff nearby but they were on their phone instead of trying to help hotel guests.

Ohm, who was the person who we met and who looked after us during our stay, was wonderful.

The staff is extremely professional and friendly, and it was our pleasure conversing with them on various topics.

The welcoming is not very warm looks more if you book in to a school

The few buildings and rooms are situated in a garden by the river, which feels like an oasis in the bustling old town that is very close to the temples and the palace.

The room had a magical feel to it; from the moment you unlock the big wooden doors and you step into your room you feel like you're a world away.

I recommend the owner: 1) add Dinner room service 2) Improve this problem:The suite is soundproofed, so at night you can hear the noise of the boat engines.

The large apartment with a pool view where we stayed is generously designed in traditional Thai wooden construction and has its own terrace with very nice loungers.

Probably the only thing is that we were in one of the standard rooms, and the coffee and tea were out on the landing serving three rooms.

Having booked a smaller suite, we got upgraded to a Thai House suite which was a traditional Thai house, but with all the modern comforts.

Whilst the lamps and lighting fixtures were very attractive at times the lighting was too dim to read or to look for items etc.

There was a very large balcony with a daybed under roof, two sun loungers and a table with two chairs all under parasols.

The shower head was a little cumbersome for me to use - but I’m really grasping to think of anything I didn’t like!

We stayed in one of the Moroccan styled rooms and loved the decor.. really liked the Chinese door lock and lamps.

Spacious, huge terrace on the river, lovely to sit and watch the river at times vibrant and others dead silence.

The bathroom was in need of updating as the sink and bath were cracked which made it feel grubby.

I did not want to flood the whole bathroom so I didn't shower the way I would love to.

The room was not the one I thought I’d booked and the decor was not the classic style.

Took a while to figure out the room lock, but that was part of the whole experience :)

The room was small, but it was fine for a short stay, but not much storage space.

It is decorated with traditional Thai decor, and the floor is probably made of teak wood.

Our pool view room was so comfortable from the canopy bed to the living room sofas.

They need to revamp their rooms with minmalistic approch and decluter all what has been stacked.

Rooms were very clean; somewhat rustic rather than ultra modern utility that seemed in keeping.

The room was a tad small but it fit me and my two suitcases comfortably.

We were upgraded to a better room and it was very large and beautiful!

Rooms space is less and they are cramped with furniture and items.

The bed was comfortable and the room was cute and cozy.

It was like having my own Jim Thompson home.

I looked forward to breakfast each of the 3 mornings seated at my beautifully appointed private table for one facing Wat Arun each morning and dining on customized breakfast food options.

Breakfast is served to order on a purpose built covered restaurant pier over the river which has a stunning view of the fort and the temples across the river.

We paid for the breakfast on two of the three nights, which was in a lovely setting overlooking the river and Wat Arun.

On the final day, the chef cooked us a traditional Thai breakfast with fried rice and pork - it was immense.

A delicious breakfast is served in the morning on the terrace overlooking the Chaopraya River and Wat Arun.

It was heavily to come back to a dip in the pool after a busy and warm day.

The pool is a perfect slice of heaven in the afternoon when the temperatures soar.

Since the hotel is very small, you usually have the pool almost to yourself.

The pool was always empty, being a small hotel, it was all for ourselves!

This is similar to a high quality meal in France and the products and the salaries cost significantly less in Thailand so the tourist tax is a bit too high on this one.

The food was adequate, but it was by no means unusual or special in anyway, and certainly not Michelin standards based on all my other Michelin experiences.

I will suggest arranging lunch as well. Even if it is on a fixed menu like for dinner, the villas deserve to be enjoyed all the time.

Be sure to try the dinner as it was the best food we've had in Thailand, and the view of the illuminated Wat Arun is spectacular.

The restaurant only offers a set menu in the evening - the food was very good but quite pricey for what it was.

We spent 2 nights having dinner there out of our 3 at Chakrabongse, and the food was simply amazing - as was breakfast.

I really expected and hoped it was going to be really special and fabulous and it lacked flavor and spice.

The food was delicious however the price was a bit too expensive in our opinion for what we got.

The dinner there, is a must, too, it was exceeding our expectations, with the night view of Wat Arun.

It was served lukewarm and seemed like it had been sitting and not cooked and served right away.

I understand it is a set menu, but it should at least be described prior to being served.

The restaurant is amazing, right at the river with splendid views of Wat Arun and incredible food.

I expected it to be exceptional, and it was not nearly what it should be.

I did tell the manager about it because if they don’t know they cannot improve.

The dinner which was supposed to be Michelin recommended was not up to par.

Dinner there was also incredible with a top notch chef and an unbeatable view.

Dining on the terrace by the river was one of the many highlights.

In the evening the pier houses a restaurant that serves a fixed menu.

Breakfasts were also served there and that view just doesn’t get old.

The fruit I was served in the morning was not ripe.

A three course meal at the Four Seasons cost us less.

It was 2500 baht per person which converts to 70€.

It is not cheap - but it is amazing.

I was a little disappointed in the food.

It felt like the hotel is trying to save on the basics such as bathroom sanitary supplies (nothing was there except basic soap, hair conditioner and shampoo in big bottles)
